When I started BD 3.6 (vista install) which had been working normally for some time I got error 13 "wrong password" and "invalid LF handle", having seen a similar situation in the forum I reinstalled the program. Now I get error 53 "file not found".
It figures that you are out of town. The only time I have issues is when you are not around. |

Hi,
Interesting. I have seen this twice now in the last year. Can you think of what changed with your computer (new software, hardward, problems, etc) since BD worked last time successfully?
Can you provide a screen shot of the latest error message?
Do you have a backup of your data?

Hi,
And thanks for the screen shots. I am not sure which file it might be complaining about.
Are you running from an admin-priv'd account?
I think I should get onto your system and have a look at this. Something changed your system and the errors we are getting aren't telling me enough about what the problem is.
Let me know when would be a good time to do this. Today or tomorrow during the day is good for me.

| I am running from an admin account with XP compatibility. I don't have independent internet access during the day during the week in general. My schedule today is challenging if I try smartphone modem access from work. Any other time this week? |

Hi Robert,
I am gone from Thurs through Sun this week.
Something definitely changed on your computer to make it stop working. The usual culprits are:
- antivirus/spyware software
- doing a software uninstall which removes files needed by other programs
- virus on your system
- Vista security
In 99% of these cases, performing a reinstall of BD fixes it. You say that you tried that. Did you get any errors during the re-installation? Were you running from a priv'd account when you did that?
What happens if you right-click the BD icon and choose run as admin?
Let me know please,
Jeff |

I have no clue what caused the problem. I had no errors on reinstall. I have initiated it as you suggested with no luck (One of the first things I did) |

Very interesting. The best way for me to troubleshoot this is to get onto your system. Your system must be connected to the internet. Will you be able to put this system on the internet? And if so, I can work on this at night also - so just name a time. But, on vacation from Thu through Sun this week.

Sorry Robert - was out last night. Can we schedule for this coming Mon or Tue evening? If so, please pick a day and time (including time zone) please.

| Well, I restored my computer to factory settings and tried to reinstall. I am fine until I try to import my data and the format is unrecognizable. Then when I destroy the install and try to license, it stops working, even though I am following the instructions above. This program does not like vista on my computer and I have wasted too much time on this. I am giving up and switching to another way to track my sightings. Fortunately I am not a power watcher. |

Hi Robert,
This is frustrating for you I am sure. Very sorry for the problems.
If you want to try again - I am sure I can help if I can get access to your system.
I am not sure what you mean when you say that you are trying to import your data. Do you mean a backup restore process? If you could provide more details on exactly what you were doing - it just might point to a specific problem
Let me know if I can help,

| Yes, it was a restore from a backup. In an earlier install I even moved the whole datafile over. I never had this problem with XP, but I am unwilling to move to XP for just one program. Thanks for the offer. I am giving up. Life is too short. |
