There is typically a deep discount if someone purchases a product within 1-2 months of the next update coming out. Deeper than the one shown on the web site. For example, if you had purchased Clements 2005 within 2 months of 2008 coming out, I offered the upgrade at 20% instead of 50%.
The taxonomic lists are separate purchases from the user license. So purchasing those now won't make any difference. They will work with the next version of BD when it comes out. And all future versions. Taxonomic lists get updated when the governing body or authority for those lists update them. Which is generally once per year.
