I downloaded the program 3.6 and imported the Clements 2008 World list sucessfully but now am stuck on the checklist import. I get the error message "The file is not recognized as a Birders Dairy Import file for [checklist]" The zip file was opened into an Excel format which I see is a problem but my Windows XP program did not offer the choice to extract the zip file to disk. Any suggestions as to how to proceed with the checklist so I can unlock the Taxonomic List?

Make sure you are using the Checklists TAB on the Import window instead of the Taxonomies TAB. That can produce this problem.

Assuming that is not it, how did you unZIP the Taxonomy zip file without opening in Excel and not the Checklist zip file? Of course, you would want to use the same process that you used for the Taxonomy zip file.

Using Internet Explorer works much better for downloading and saving files rather than FireFox or NetScape, etc. Try using that. Save to disk, then right click and Extract the contents.

The procedure on the Downloads :: Tax List Instructions page is tried and true. Be sure to go back to those instructions and go through them step-by-step.

This error could also mean that you are trying to import the Tax List file again (the same one you imported using the Taxonomies TAB) using the Checklists TAB. To be sure, the two files are:

• Birds-Clements-2008.csv, and
• Birds-Clements-2008-Checklist.csv

Be sure to import the second file using the Checklists TAB.

That is what I suspected. You need to download the checklist version of Clements-2008 per the instructions on the Tax List Instructions page, unzip it, then import it using the Checklist TAB.

That should take care of it.
