Excuse my ignorance - but what am I supposed to see in that screen capture?

In an earlier post John Baker said

In Clements 2004 the following family names are missing, in addition to Fantails and Monarchs, noted above.

Shoebill
Wild Turkey
Stone-Curlews
Magellanic Plover
Sandgrouse
Motmots
New Zealand Wrens
Hypocolius
Australian Chats
Bush Shrikes
Helmet Shrikes
Mud-nesters
Bornean Bristlehead
Olive Warbler
Przewalski's Rosefinch
My screen shot was to demonstrate that they ARE present in Clements 2004 and makes me wonder why you asked for the Latin family names. Does that explain it?

Hi John,

The question was not whether those families existed, but that the english description of those latin family names was missing in some cases.

Sorry, my mistake - but - the English name is not missing as a pop-up on the tax viewer. Is it missing somewhere else or am I still missing the point?

Well - that is the big question.

Somehow some databases are missing those english translations and some have them.

And I know that nothing in BD populates that field (no imports) other than the manual operation provided in the Tax Viewer.

So that - I think is the only question here - why the discrepancy between the two databases?

My database was one updated continually since 3.?.??.
If I remember correctly a new database was also introduced at some time. Do you remember this? Could this be a result?

I don't know. It just doesn't make sense.

John, weren't you going to send me your database for that other problem (view/edit) issue?

Or do I have my issues mixed up?

I sent you my database for the 3077? error, which you fixed. If you still have it have a look see for this problem.

In that version, the Family Descriptions were omitted on a couple of families.

The solution to this problem was to pull up that tax list (Clements in this case) in the Tax Viewer,

1) right-click on the Family name
2) Choose Edit Description
3) Set the description.

Hi Jeff:

Getting ready for a trip to England, and noticed that the family name for Eurasian Thick-knee was missing in Clements 2008. I corrected my copy with the steps above, but thought I would point it out to you.

Thanks!

Actually looking closer at my checklist, I noticed a few other species are missing family names. Easily fixed, but thought I'd pass them on.

Pallas' Sandgrouse
Bearded Reedling
Wallcreeper

Thanks!

Hi Jeff:

Printing off a trip list from last year, I see Yellow Wagtail iberiae is now listed as:

Yellow Wagtail iber?iae  Motacilla flava iber?iae

Thanks much Rob! Corrected and uploading new version now. Of course, very easy to just make the change yourself using the Tax Editor.

Jeff,

Quick question.  Is the updated Clement's the one dated 4/30/08?  Do you only have to download and install this file to make the corrections?

Hi Mike,

Yes - just download and import the latest Clements 08 tax list (checklist import did not change so no need to re-import that) and that will fix it.

If you do not delete your current Clements 08 tax list before importing the new one, it will ask you to specify a new name for the new import. So I suggest that you first use the Tax Viewer to delete your current Clements 08 tax list and then import the new one on the Downloads page.

Let me know if you have any further questions,
Jeff
