Hi Jeff--Here's a new bug--new to me at least--that you might want to fix.

A couple of trips were accidentally deleted (maybe by human error, maybe not, I don't know how it happened) from my datebase a few months ago which I just became aware of today when I noticed that the trip fields of the sightings concerned were blank.  When I selected one of these sightings & clicked the "edit" button, I got a fatal error message (attached) & BD shut down.  Fortunately, the error wasn't really "fatal" since mass editing continued to function properly & I was eventually able to correct the problem that way.

Another plea for referential integrity?

The question is how did those trips get deleted.

Attempting to delete a trip with sightings attached to it should produce the message below.

Any ideas how these trips got deleted?

Jeff

Hi Jeff

That's the problem, I don't know how (or when, exactly) the trips got deleted.  One of the 2 had no sightings assigned to it & could have been accidentally deleted by me working on auto-pilot late some evening.  But the other one had attached sightings & I don't see how I could have accidentally deleted it in this way.  Now that I'm aware of the possibility I'll keep an eye out for the problem & get back to you if it happens again.

By the way, it would be easier to keep track of trips if a list could be printed out, but as far as I can tell it can't.  Nor have I been able to figure out how to get the trip list on the clipboard.  So it looks like the only way to get a record of the list, short of hand transcription, is by means of a series of screen shots.

Hi Fred,

Yes - this is true. No way to get a printout of all trips. Should put this on the wishlist.

I guess what I was getting at with the mysterious trip deletion is: are you getting into the database using MS Access or other means and somehow deleting trips outside of functionality provided through the User Interface of Diary?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff
I'll put a request for a trip list printout on the wishlist as you suggest.

In answer to your question about the trip deletions, no, I haven't fiddled with the database in any way outside the BD user interface. I now have screenshots of the trip list (all 176 entries) & if anything goes missing again I should be able to get right on it.
