Hi, just back from Peru and running some reports.
One is my life list, filtered to Hummingbirds.
It works when Taxonomy list is Wells, but returns with "No Data" when Clements is used?
Any suggestions what is or what I do wrong.
best regards
Per

Hello Per
I have the same problem when filtering
Trochilidae
in a life list report.
No matter which country or tax list I use I get "no data in report".
Over to you Jeff!

Hi Per and John,
This probably because Clements places Hummingbirds in the Order
Apodiformes
rather than Trochiliformes as in other taxonomic lists. Try that.
Use either the Rosetta Stone or the Tax Viewer to discover this for yourself. fyi

Jeff, Spot on...
Thank You very much. Would have seen this myself if I had listed Order name in report.

Hi Jeff
I was being an idiot and looking for humming birds under Passeriformes. Can you make the filter idiot proof by only allowing bona fide candidates to appear in the filter? Maybe this should be in the Wishlist?

Hi John,
The filter used to work this way (in BD 3.0, for example) and it seemed surprising that things had been changed in 3.5. In response to the question "why?" Jeff said that there had been some "bugs and issues" with the filter so the present version is the way it is. I think the point came up somewhere in the tediously long thread about subspecies (taxonomic issues) that I brought into life a while ago.
But I agree with you that it would be helpful if the filter again worked as it used to.
Best wishes,
Graham

I much prefer a multi-level set of dropdowns that filter based on the choices already made. Unless it takes too long to filter!

If it helps - it does become a performance issue and becomes complex within a multiple-taxonomic-list program.
In the example that prompted this response, for example - it would not have helped. Once the user got down to the Order after having entered Animalia Chordata Aves, both Apodiformes and Trochiliformes would have been valid choices. The user would have needed to consult the tax list in question to determine the proper order. Once your system has tax lists for trees, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, etc etc, the multitude of choices seems to be of very little help.
my 2 cents worth
Jeff

Jeff, I understand and agree. I still have to make the right choice - there is no way the system could predict my choice.
But please store the data the user enter for next search. Don't want to enter Animalia, Chordata, Aves every time.
Might even get it into 3.6 :-)
Best regards

Done. It is in the next release.
