I have birders diary 3.5 basic, license 213271, and I want to install it on a new laptop before upgrading to the 2.6. currently I have a demo version on the laptop with my lists etc, which has expired. (I imported the data from my previous computer). But when I go to enter my license, it will not accept it. Please help. I believe I know my password, if it is the same as used for aou or aba 2005 lists. thanks toby sackton

Hello Toby,

You have given me most of the information I need.

You gave me one License ID from your purchase of BD from a distributor (Basic User License). I have reset the License Activate count on that.

I also looked up Licenses by your Last Name and found an AOU 2005 license that I also reset the activation count on.

So those two licenses are good to use again. Note- the passwords on each of those are different. The password for the former can be found on your CDrom case. The password for the later is on your email copy of the invoice. Let me know if you need assistance with either of these.

There is another license that came with your purchase of BD from a distributor on the CDrom case. If that one has exhausted its activation count then I will need that ID also in order to reset it.

Let me know if I can assist with anything else,

Jeff

How can I find out which licences I have? I'm running BD 3.6. I need to add "cackling goose" and can't do it with my current tax lists. Would ABA splits be included in Clement's 2005 list or do I need to get a lic ence for ABA Nov '06 I'm a long time Thayers user with over 3000 world birds Dick Gillmer

Hello Dick,

To answer your question, you can see which licenses you have one of two ways:

  1. Within BD (this will show you which license you have activated)
    1. Start 3.6
    2. Click on Help -> License Information
    3. This window will show you all licenses activated
  2. At the Online Store (this will show you all licenses you have purchased)
    1. at this web site choose Purchase > Logon to the Online Store
You can logon with your email address if you have purchased or logged on to the Online Store before (your Store logon is different from this web site logon for security reasons).
If you have not logged on to the Store or purchased from there before (e.g. you purchased Birder's Diary from a distributor), then logon with your License ID and password.

Now - on to your real problem. I can see that in you purchased a 3.6 Basic User license in September, 2006. But I see no record of a taxonomic list purchase. Although it is possible that you could have purchased it under a different last name (I looked up your purchases using your last name).

Most users that bird in North America purchase the latest ABA tax list.  If you also bird outside of this region, the most popular purchases are ABA and Clements. Both have the Cackling Goose in them.

Instructions for purchasing, downloading, importing and activating tax lists are all spelled out on this web site at Downloads - Tax List Instructions. But I am here to assist if you run into problems.

Let me know how I can assist further.

Jeff
