Jeff,

If I use the Tax View, I can find the Red-footed Falcon in the latest ABA list (N0v 2006). But if I print a checklist using the same tax list of either the ABA area or Massachusetts (where the falcon was seen) it doesn't show up. I'm I doing something wrong?

Hi Marc,

No problem here on my end. Have you imported the latest ABA-Nov-2006 checklist. That should fix it. Please download and import.

Use the settings in the screen capture below.

Jeff,

I get as far as the screen shown in your screen capture. Then I hit Import and I am taken to the browse screen. I go to the excel file (which is the unzipped file of the Nov 06 ABA list), hit Open and get the following message:

Try Another File!

This file is not recognized as a Birder's Diary Import file for Checklist!

What am I doing wrong here?

Hi Marc,

My guess is that you are attempting to open the "Taxonomic" Clements import file instead of the "Checklist" Clements import file. The two are marked differently on the Downloads page and named differently. Does the file your are attempting to import have the word "Checklist" in it? If not, then simply download the Checklist version again, unZIP and impor that file.

Let me know,
Jeff

Jeff,

Your guess is 100% on the mark. The checklist file is being downloaded this very moment.

Must be Monday morning!

Thanks for the help.

Marc

... and furthermore, Mr. BirdBrain here had not downloaded the checklists for the AOU and for Clements. With the Clements checklist properly downloaded, the China checklist comes in with 4482 subspecies, not the 28 reported on another post. There is still a one species discrepency between the species and sub-species cheklist for China, and I am bound and determined to find it in atonement for my forgetting to download the checklists.

Jeff,

One last comment. After importing the checklist, the Red-footed Falcon was still not on the Mass list. I imported the ABA checklist again and the analysis revealed about 20 records that were different (I presume records that had not been overwritten the first time I imported the checklist - including the Falcon). So I imported the AOU checklist for a second second time and 1 record was different. I am now re-importing Clements. This is a small number of errors in percentage terms but when the one bird you are looking for is missing ....

Wonder if anyone else has found that importing for a second time catches some dropped balls...

Hi Marc,

Actually, I would import Clements, then AOU, then ABA - in order of largest area to smallest area. One import may overwrite previous ones.

fyi
