Hi all. I am having my usual trouble downloading the November 2006 ABA update. I have un-zipped the file into csv format, clicked the Import button, selected the csv version of the November 2006 ABA update and it tells me "This file not recognized as a Birder's Diary Import File for [Taxonomy]!

Thanks.

Todd

Hi Todd,

It sounds like you are using the Taxonomy TAB to import the Checklist version of the 2006 ABA update.

To be sure, the checklist CSV file has the word  checklist as part of its filename. The taxonomy import file does not.

Double-check that you are using the right TAB with the right import file.

Let me know please.

Jeff

Hi Jeff. I purchased the ABA-2006- Upgrade on December 22, 2006, which I thought was a taxonony file that then permitted me to download the ABA 2006 Checklist and the Clements 2006 Checklist for free.

I have successfully imported the ABA 2006 Checklist file, but not the ABA 2006 taxonomy file. I also cannot un-Zip the Clements 2006 checklist file.

Hello Todd,

The ABA 2006 tax list purchase gives you access to all ABA 2006 tax list & checklist releases for 2006. Not the Clements tax list or checklist however.

But, you already own a license for the Clements 2005 tax list. This also gives you license to use the Birds-Clements-2006-Oct-Checklist import file which updates all locations for all Clements birds worldwide. As well as the Birds-Clements-2006 tax list import file.

So you should be all set to go.

But, your purchase of the ABA 2006 license duplicated a purchase you already made of the same license on 10/10. So, I have turned that purchase into a store credit for the full amount that you can use at anytime on future purchases. You can not use that License ID anymore, but rather use the one from your 10/10 purchase.

You can logon to the Online Store at any time to retrieve License IDs from past purchases and to get your ZIP file passwords (which were not included in old purchaes). See instructions on FAQ on Downloads page. Use the Purchase > Logon to Online Store menu option on this web site.

Now, to import the Taxonomic and Checklist files that you are licensed for, all you should have to do is to follow the instructions on the Downloads > Tax List Instructions page on this web site. If you are failing to get any downloaded and imported, then please give me details about where you are failing - and be very specific about what you do and what happens. Then I am sure that I can give you instructions on how to get past that.

Thanks, Jeff, first for giving me a credit for my stupidity in ordering the same thing twice, but also for the information. (You should keep the $14 for all the e-mails I send you every time I try to download something.).

Following your instructions I went in and got my password for the 2005 Clement's file and used it to un-zip the 2006 Clement's file. However, when I went to import it, using the Checklist Tab, the file does not show up in the Taxonomy drop down box. I went back to the csv.file and clicked on it, it said "File Not Completely Loaded". I closed Birder's Diary. I deleted the csv file. un-zipped it again, opened Birder's Diary, went back to the Import/Export function and it is still not in the Taxonomy drop down box. The csv.file is still saying "File Not Completely Loaded". Any suggestions?

Thanks, again.

Todd

Hi Todd,

The Birds-Clements-2006-Oct-Checklist.csv file is a checklist data import. It is NOT a new taxonomic list. This only updates the location (which bird appears in which state/country) information for all birds in the Clements tax list. You will still use the Clements 2005 taxonomic list.

I know this is confusing and if there were a better way to relate it - well - I am trying.

Now, exactly where and how do you get this "file not completely loaded" message. Give me all the steps you did to get this message, so I can understand how this is happening.

But basically, you should have followed the steps on the Downloads > Tax List Instructions page on this website for importing a checklist. If you did so, then the import is probably A-OK. But let me know.

Jeff
