For several months after upgrading to V3.6, I have had both V3.5 and V3.6 on my computer. I finally got around to deleting V3.5 via the Add/Delete program in Windows XP Control Panel. Unfortunately, this also automatically deleted V3.6.

I ran a Windows XP System Restore to a time before the deletion and got a message telling me to move the file "database.mdb" to the Data folder of Birder's diary. I did this and now get error message "Run-Time Error 3265 Item not found in this collection" when I attempt to start the program.

What do I do next?

Hi Dave,

Do you have a valid backup of your database?

To correct your v3.6 installation (instead of doing a restore point - which should have been fine also), simply reinstall v3.6 from the Downloads page on this web site. (Click on the Network Installation link and choose Run)

Now, where did you get this database.mdb that you moved into your /data directory? If it is a copy of your backup or a copy of the original file from that directory, then this file is fine and performing a new installation as directed above will fix it. If this is not a valid 3.6 database or backup of one, then you need to get one and put it there.

Let me know how this goes and if I can assist further. I am heading out on 2 weeks of vacation Tuesday and will only be available for support rarely during those two weeks. fyi

Thanks for the help!

I had to delete both V3.5 and 3.6, reinstall 3.6 and restore from an earlier backup. Nothing else seemed to work. I'm up and running now.

Just added King Eider, Whooper Swan and Emperor Goose from yesterday's trip. Washington State is pretty hot right now.
