When I try to open Birder's Diary on my laptop, I get the following error message,  "DBOpenDatabase (False, False)  Latest Error Properties:  3344= unrecognized database format..."

It continues to work fine on my Desktop.

What to do?

Hello:

What version are you running?

Do you have backups of your database? Is there an up-to-date copy of your DB on your desktop?

It is having a problem with your database which would be in \data\database.mdb.

If you have a backup, just use Windows Explore to move a copy of it into that directory and rename it to "database.mdb".

I can also quickly get onto your system and probably fix this if you are uncomfortable with any of this.

Let me know,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

I am getting the same error message as the previous correspondent.  I am trying to install Birder's Diary v 3 on a new Vista pc.  It will open ok and run with the installed database, but when I try to run it after restoring the database from the old pc, I get the error DBOpenDatabase(False)(False) etc.

I checked the message about License - but there is no Unlock button in this version.  Do we need to upgrade?

Thanks, Carol

Hello Carol,

I certainly recommend upgrading as I do not know if V3.0 runs on Vista - or how well.

However, in your case, I bet the problem is that you were running v3.0.2 on your old system and all you did was to install v3.0.0 on Vista. If that is the case, then logon to this website, and get the upgrade to 3.0.2 from the Product Info >> Upgrading from v2.x or 3.0 page - at the bottom.

The way to know for sure is to take a look at the program version versus the database version in the splash screen that displays when you first start BD. If you are running program version 3.0.0, then upgrading to 3.0.2 will probably allow you to use your old database.

Let me know either way please,

Jeff
