Thanks for your response…
Further details…I have a DELL Dimension 8300 machine 120GB/512 w/~40GB free space running XP PRO. I experienced a hard disc crash and am trying to rebuild my system. I have Birder’s Diary 2.5, a Beta version of BDWE v3.0.3 (04/02/03) & a production version of BDWE 3.0.0 database 3.1.3 and recently updated to 3.5.X (I’m not sure of the version) installed on my hard drive (C from the internet prior to the crash. My backup copy in on an external drive (F named Bird_Sightings.mdb.
When I try to do a backup/restore, I get an error# 3356 “you attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user ‘admin’ on machine …. Try again when the data base is available. Restore unsuccessful
I then get the Run – install screen & get the message “The backup file already exists. Want to overwrite it w/ a new copy? Y/N”. Of course I say no. Sometimes I get the message “The backup database’s version (3.5.0) & current database’s version (3.1.3) do not match! You may have installed an update that has rendered your backup incompatible or you have reinstalled the software w/o applying all of the necessary updates. The only solution is to reinstall the software to the correct version number and retry”.
I also installed ScreenHunter on my machine, but ignorant how to use it to capture all the errors.
I had a similar problem w/GBNA and Dave Diehl poked around my machine & found version conflicts. Being a long time beta tester for Thayer, he sent me the correct version.
I just want to be able to bring BDWE back to where it was before my crash & not loose all my data.
