 Hi Jeff

My desktop computer underwent a clean install the other day, forcing me to reinstall BD3.6 along with everything else.  This I did with no problem except for 4 of the old BD taxonomic lists for which I have no record of the license key.

Birds--ABA--North America--2004

Birds--BOU--Great Britain--2004

Birds--Clements--Extinct

Birds--Western Palearctic--2004

I’ve checked my order history on your website but  the tax lists concerned aren’t there, presumably because they are too old.   So can you tell me how to activate these lists?

All the best

Fred Petersen, Reno, Nv

OK Jeff we are partly there. This got me my 3.6 license and the tree taxonomy back. I still do not have any licenses to any other taxonomy except what I have created myself or acquired while BD was still owned by Pete Thayer. Specifically the software says I do not have licenses to:

Birds--AOU--North America--2004
Birds--ABA--North America--2004
Birds--BOU--Great Britain--2004
Birds--Clements--Extinct
Birds--Western Palearctic--2004

Hi Mike and Fred:

Both of you are suffering from the same thing.

Try this for me please, assuming you are both running 3.6.29 (or later if you are running a beta version), please do the following:

  1. apply your 3.0 to 3.5 upgrade license (this is what activates the old 2004 tax lists)
  2. apply your 3.5 to 3.6 upgrade license

If #1 complains about you not having 3.0 installed, then post back here to this thread with your two user codes from the Unlock by Email window (of the license information window) and I will have to do this manually.

Somewhere in the code process I changed it so that the upgrade to 3.5 from 3.0 no longer checks to see if you have v3.0. But I can't say for sure if your version will do it.

Thanks and sorry for the hassle,

Jeff

Also Fred.... I forgot to mention that you can get your old license IDs from purchases by logging into the Online Store. Just use the Purchase menu item on this web site and choose Logon to the Online Store.

Many thanks, Jeff. Your suggestion worked & the old tax lists are licensed again.

OK Jeff,

That seemed to work. I input the codes for 3.0 to 3.5 upgrade then the code for 3.5 to 3.6 and everything seems to work. I have all my taxonomies and BD appears normal. The problem is when I exit and and restart Bd a few minutes later get the window inthe attached file.

Hi Mike,

I believe one other had this same behavior also. Here is what he did and it worked. Temporarily disable all antivirus/firewall software (they prevent programs from writing to the registry) and reapply all licenses. I have reset your activation count to 9 for the time being on your user licenses. My guess is that you do not have to reapply your taxonomic licenses.

Let me know,
Jeff

Hi Mike,

So, just to be sure,

- you have stopped all antivirus/firewall software
- re-activated your licenses, successfully, using Unlock Now
- but every time you get out of BD and back in, you are in Demo mode?

Is that correct?

If so, then I will need to get onto your system to have a look.

Do you have a fast internet connection?
Post back here when you are at your computer and available for this.

Jeff,

That is correct. No I do not have a fast connection just a slow dial up.

What OS are you running?

What antivirus/firewall software do you have?

What kind of computer?

Jeff,

This whole thing started because I purchased a new computer with Windows vista. It has Norton Internet security 2007 preinstalled. Its a Compaq Presario SR2180NX, if that means anything.

Ok - well others are running Vista without any problem. Others, including myself are running Norton 2007 without any problems.

But this problem is always something to do with antivirus software preventing writing to system directories and the registry. Are you sure you completely disabled Norton?

If so, then run the Desktop Sharing app and I will have a look.

Let me know,
jeff

Hi MIke,

Yes - I was dropped like a bad date. I want you to retry the license activate with those Norton settings above just as shown. Then exit BD and restart. That was all I was going to try. This has worked for me and others in the past.

Let me know,
Jeff
