I cannot install my CD of BD version 3.0 in order to upgrade it. I receive an error message stating there was an error in backing up eField Guides and to check Pre31BackupRestore.log. The text BackupRestore file lists an error "too few parameters"???? This is on a PC with WIndows XP Home and after I have upgraded my Thayer's BNA v 3.5???

Hi Jshier: You don't have to install v3.0 of BD to upgrade it. However, you do need to have a backup of your v3.0 database. Or the original database. Do you have either of these? Of course, installing v3.0 will not give you either of these. Just install v3.5 onto your system and follow the instructions on the Product Info > Upgrading from 2.5 or 3.0 page on this site. Jeff Jeff, I have no previous database on my computer as the Birder's Diary 3 was the first time I tried to load birder's diary on my computer. i.e. I was given the CD as I gift. I went to load it and kept getting an error message about the backup files and it would progress no further. I have been using Birds of North America and have loaded the latest version with upgrades and patches.

Jeff, Also, when I loaded BD from the web site it is a demo version and asks for License ID ??? to unlock. Where do I find or obtain this?

Hi JShier: In order to run v3.5, you must purchase an upgrade license from the Online Store. See Product Info >> Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0 page on this site. You want to read the section on upgrading from v3.0. From what I understand so far, you have a v3 CDrom of Birder's Diary and you are having trouble installing that. Thayer did not do a good job in making previous versions of BD work with current versions of GBNA. It used to be coupled for version 3.0 of each product. No longer. My suggestion is to stick with the 3.5 installation you have made and purchase it for just the upgrade price of $45 from the Online Store. Jeff
