Subject: run-time error 380 on report feature

I have a problem similar to  the one "brentb" had  dated  Dec 2005. This is part of  what he said.  I also have V.3.5.56 as he did.

"When I tried to use the Report feature I received an error message.
When I clicked the Report icon, a box marked as BDV35 popped up and it contained the following: "run-time error '380' invalid property value". All the time that this box was visible the "hourglass" symbol was visible on the screen."

When I clicked the "OK" button in the BDV35 box,  I got the options list (brenb didn't).  If I clicked the "design" button, the entire program shutdown instantly." I couldn't find the final solution on the forums.  I loaded some of my backup databases back to the time the program was still working.  I got the same error.

Hi,

90% of these types of problems are fixed by re-running the installation.

You will find the 3.5.56 installation at the bottom of the Downloads page.

This is important: make sure you turn off ALL antivirus/firewall software for the duration of the installation.

If this doesn't fix the problem, can you think of anything that happened on your computer between the time it used to work and when the error started appearing?

What OS are you running? (e.g. XP, Vista, ME, etc.)

Hi, I downloaded the updated Clements World Bird list this week. At the end of the download I got the following message:
Some Errors occurred -- see log file!
Import completed with erroneous records ignored
Added 10745 cklst records
Removed 10118 records
380 Invalid property value (SBarCtrl) contact technical support@wbd.com

The files are indeed loaded in my Birders Diary folder but the new Clements is not in the license list when I go to help liscenses for activation. In addition, I can no longer pull in any of my lists to add species, BD tells me "No things are linked to this location."

Hi Susan,

Wow - the trifecta of errors! No problems. Here's the solution:

  • 380 invalid property - you can ignore that. I comes from minimizing the main BD window while the progress bar is in action at some point.
  • Activating your new Clements license - it won't show up in the "Activated Licenses" list until you activate the license. Go ahead with the Unlock Now button.
  • No things attached to this location - Sounds like your location performance table is corrupt. Easy fix.
    • Open the locations window and add a test location with parent of World
    • Now delete that new test location and close the locations window.
    • The performance table will be rebuilt and all will be ok.

Thanks for the help, Jeff.

I rebuilt the location table as suggested and now all of the old lists work fine.

Yes, I had minimized during download so that issue is explained.

But, I can't seem to activate. I went at it via the add function when the window pops up telling me I don't have a license and then proceeded through the buttons toward activation. I also went thru the help/licensed list and clicked Unlock now. In both cases I get: The info entered not validated by the server. Please try again or contact Tech support. Yes, I am using the license Id # and the password number from my invoice. Yes, I am connected to the internet. yes, I am lost again! Or is that still.... Susan

Well - 2 out of 3 ain't bad!

You definitely want to activate via the instructions here: http://www.birdersdiary.com/Documentation/BDV37/BDV37/Activating_Your_Birder_s_Diary_Licenses.htm 

Using the Unlock Now button, the error you report indicates that you are not using the correct license ID and password. There are two passwords on your invoice. One is for the installation and one is for the license activation. See picture below. Make sure you are using the one for license activation in RED below.
