Hi Jeff,
Thanks for taking care of my order. Everything is now okay except for the subspecies problem, about which I'll start another thread, and the fact that I once again have to ask you for codes to unlock the software. The codes I can provide are:-
User Code 1 323702402 User Code 2 6536420
Please could you let me know what I need to do to finish the registration?
Thanks and best wishes,
Graham |

Hello Graham,
Do this:
1) Start v3.6 2) Click on Help | License Information 3) Click on Unlock Now 4) Enter your v3.5 Advanced License ID: 322050 (enter your password also) 5) Click OK 6) Click on Unlock Now again 7) Enter your v3.6 Upgrade License ID: 446185 (same password) 8) Click OK
[this information is on the Product Info >> Version 3.6 Information page on this site]
Now you are licensed for v3.6.
But, I do not show where you have purchased a taxonomic list for use with BD.
Please see the page on this site Product Info >> Licensing to understand why.
Let me know if I can assist with any of this.

Hi Jeff,
I'm sure we're nearly there but the unlock procedure you describe above only works on computers with internet connections, which my PC that runs BD lacks (deliberately - we've been through this). This means that when I click on Unlock Now I enter a screen entitled Unlock by Internet, which is no use to me. The only option I seem to have - as last time - is to go via Unlock by e-mail, for which I need the various codes.
If I'm not missing something obvious, please could you give me the magic numbers to enter? My two User Codes are given in my previous posting in this tedious thread. By the way, is there anybody else out there who is reading it?
Best wishes,
Graham |

Graham,
I am not sure where I would have known that your computer is not on the internet.
Since it is not, we will have to do this twice - once to license 3.5 (because your upgrade to 3.6 from 3.5 looks to make sure you have 3.5 first) and then once for your 3.6 license.
So, here are your reg key numbers for licensing v3.5:
Reg Key 1: 667260443 Reg Key 2:
After entering those, then reply with the two new user codes from the Unlock by Email window again, and we will get you to v3.6.
Also, the Checklist Entry window now properly highlights species/subspecies seen. There is a new option in the setup window. See below.
This will be available next week as a free release. Stay tuned to the web site for that announcement.

Hi Jeff,
Very generous of you to say you didn't remember that my computer is not on the internet after all the trouble you had helping me to unlock version 3.5. I'm delighted to see that you don't bear a grudge about it!
Thanks for the first two reg key numbers. The next phase of the procedure gives me the two user codes:-
User Code 1: 264982355 User Code 2: 6536420
Could you let me have the next two magic numbers, please?
Finally, thanks for all your efforts on the species/subspecies business. The new feature looks extremely helpful - I look forward to its release.
Best wishes,
Graham

Hi Graham,
Reg Key 1: 668402863 Reg Key 2: 1111892001
I am glad to get those species/subspecies things correct. Honestly, you are the first one (maybe one other a long time ago) to bring this up. Perhaps you will find other things that need correcting as well. Sometimes, being the developer, I am too close to things to see the errors. Then I depend on the large user base to point obvious things out to me. And to boot, I improved the speed of all of those things!

Hi Jeff,
Many thanks. I entered the two codes and am finally licensed for 3.6.12. Wonderful.
Intriguingly, however, when I click on "License Information" I am once again given the option of unlocking something and offered the two codes:
User Code 1: 315314245 User Code 2: 6536420 (as usual)
What are these for? Is there some other feature I haven't yet unlocked?
I'm glad the subspecies business is now sorted out. I noticed that running off an "Austria list" (i.e. a list of all the species I've seen in Austria) fails to produce any grebes, presumably because all my sightings are no entered at subspecies level. Does the fix you're about to release correct this? I guess so but thought I should ask before it goes online ...
And I'm delighted that the fix will speed things up. Good news all round and thanks again for your help.
Best wishes,
Graham

Hi Graham,
If you should purchase another tax list, this is how you would license that. Unlock Now would be used if you are on the internet, and Unlock by Email would be used if your system is not on the internet.
I'm glad the subspecies business is now sorted out. I noticed that running off an "Austria list" (i.e. a list of all the species I've seen in Austria) fails to produce any grebes, presumably because all my sightings are no entered at subspecies level. What report did you run exactly? Which tab was selected and what settings (taxonomic list, etc) did you use?
I should have the new release ready on Monday for download.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the explanation of the unlocking facility. All perfectly clear at last.
The "Austria" list problem is more interesting. Your question about what exactly I am doing made me think (about time) and I tried a couple of different things. Running the list using Clements taxonomy produces pretty much what I would expect (screenshot 1) but running it, as I had been (screenshot 2), based on Westean Palearctic taxonomy omits all species that I have entered at the subspecies level (screenshot 3). It looks as though the subspecies are not mapped on to the W Palearctic list. And every time I start the program having edited another batch of sightings (entering subspecies, a really daunting task but I'm now on the herons) I find that the count for my Austria list (based on W Palearctic taxonomy) has shrunk further ...
I'll try the fix as soon as I can to see how it behaves but am away for the next few days so don't expect to hear from me until Thursday at the earliest. Time to break out the champagne.
Best wishes,
Graham |

You are correct Graham. The WP list does not contain subspecies. Therefore using that list will not count any sightings entered at the subspecific level.
