Hi Roger,
Just had another customer with the same problem. This came about, I believe because they upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista or XP, and then they attempted to return to Vista or XP. Either way, it left the computer is a weird state.
I finally fixed the problem via these steps:
- Open the Registry Editor
- click on the Windows Start button and type "regedit" into the search field
- This will open the registry Editor
- Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Birders Diary
- Open that branch and you will see the Settings node underneath it.
- Right-click on the Settings node and choose "Delete"
- Attempt to start BD again.
Let me know. I don't know why the OS considers opening that key a "Data type mismatch", however, it was on attempting to open that key that it reported the error on the other customer's system. Once I deleted that node, and all under it via the process above, BD started normally and recreated the contents of that node.
