Hi Ruth,

This seems to indicate that you do not have all of your sightings in one database. It sounds as if you entered some sightings in DB1, for example, then switched to DB2 and moved forward. Thereby missing the sightings that were entered into DB1.

You can use the Sightings TAB of the Import/Export window to export the missing sightings from DB1,  and import them into DB2.

Is the process of exporting/importing as described in the blue message above the correct way to transfer the sightings? or am I just transferring a report template?

If you use the Sightings TAB then you are exporting/importing sightings; if the Reports TAB, then you are only exporting/importing report template settings.

Does this make sense now? It seems that perhaps all of your sightings are not in the database you are using.

I am available at just about any time to get onto your system with about a 2 hours notice this week.

Let me know,

Jeff

I think we are now on the same page..

Yes I was exporting Report templates.

So now I went to File>Import/Export Data window>Sightings>entered begin and end dates and observer,>Export. Then the pop up window appears "Unexpected Handled Error. 94-Invalid use of Null. Contact BW..."

The circular, VISTA cursor sits there and spins away with a 1/4" of so of blue bar at the bottom with the name of the 1st species, but it never moves right across the bottom like it's working, nor does the 'timer' on the right change. I can at least close the program.

Let's see if we can resolve this 94 error before visiting....

Thanks, Ruth

Hi Ruth,

Now we are getting somewhere.

Ruth - can you see if you can do a test export of sightings data? Specify a date range outside of the one you are specifying that returns the RTE 94. I want to see if this issue is related to bad data in the date range or if there is some other problem.

Just see if you can export sightings, just one or two will do, outside the date range producing the RTE 94.

Let me know please,

Jeff

I have tried to export data for a variety of time periods in - 1982, 2006, 2002.... ALL give me the same 94-Invalid use of Null error.

Hi Ruth,

What version of BD are you running? v3.6.49 is the latest. I seem to remember this being a bug in v3.6.x, where "x" is less that 49. If you are not running 3.6.49, then you can upgrade to it from the Downloads page on this site. it is free.

Let me know please.
Jeff

Well, Jeff.... THANK YOU for finally getting me from export A to import B!!!!

I was running 3.5.56. I downloaded 3.6.49 and the export/import OF MY SIGHTINGS! worked! My goodness, so simple!!!!!

But, the 3.6.49 is currently running as a demo. It did not upgrade 'over' the 3.5.56. Do I need to enter my license ID and password or unlock by email????

I also quickly noticed differences in report format, etc.. but I will try to play around with the info that is there, before I tickle your brain help again if necessary. MANY THANKS for being prompt and persistent with the help.

Ruth

Yikes! Didn't notice that you were still running v3.5 Ruth. And I told you the upgrade was free. I assumed you were running some earlier version of 3.6.

So - free it is!   Your license ID is 937218. If you do not know your password, please email me off line (jeff@birdersdiary.com) and I will remind you.

Start BD, the license information window will appear (the one that says you are running in Demo mode). Click on Unlock Now and enter your License ID and your password.

Let me know,

Jeff

DONE and MANY THANKS! You will get my $$s when I Clements 08 is available. I understand I will have to pay full price since I have the 04 version now.

Should I upgrade ABA tax or AOU tax lists? or both? If I had to choose only one, which one?

One difference I notice in 3.6 is that the reports formating now doesn't give me the default settings in bold/shaded for Family Desc. I liked that.

Should I uninstall 3.5 from my system?

Again, thanks for helping me work through this. I'm back up and ticking!

Hello Ruth,

If your ABA counts are important to you, then you should upgrade to the latest ABA tax list.

Concerning the report formatting: You now have control over the GroupBy fields (e.g. Family Desc) in the report designer. So, just click on the Output Columns button on the report designer, then for the Family Desc field, click on the Font button and you can set the Font, Color, Bold, Size, etc.

NO - do not uninstall 3.5. You can remove the icon from the desktop however.
