06/28/2008 8:09 AM Alert

I have BD 3.6 installed on 2 PCs; my laptop & my desktop. I haven't used it on my desktop since last summer when I installed BD on my laptop. I opened BD on the desktop and it is locked (demo trial exceeded). I tried to unlock it, but it says number of PCs exceeded. Please reset so I can sync my laptop with my desktop.

Thanks.

Jeff,

I have a similar problem. I am trying to re-install my Birders Diary on  my laptop after a crash.

It will not recognize my license and password because of previous installations.

Can you reset this for me? I'm anxious to add to my life list the birds that I recently spotted in Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Also, what is my best option for upgrades? I have Birder's Diary 3.5,

and

Clement's 2004 Birds of the World. I just want to do what is best and most ecconomical.

Thanks so much, I love he products!

Hello Danny,

I have reset your activations.

You can upgrade to 3.6 - basic or advanced. See the Online Store page on this site.

Also, Clements 2008 is available. The most up-to-date world tax list available.

Let me know if I can assist with anything else.

Excellent! I think I'm up and running on all counts. I'll try to upgrade soon. If there are problems I'll be in touch.

Thanks for the quick response.

Along these general lines, Jeff...

As you may know, I've been working on converting a friend's lifetime of sightings to BD format. I had installed a trial version of BD on my laptop (where no copy had been installed before) and figured I'd get it all converted, show her how to use the program, and get her to purchase it. I figured I'd just install it on her home computer, make the purchase, and then copy over the database I set up.

Which is still the general plan, except that I'm heading on a couple of birding trips and decided the laptop would be great to have for myself. I've saved her copy of the database to a separate location, figuring I'd reinstall BD on here for myself, activate, copy over my existing database from my desktop, and come back later to the conversion project.

But I don't think I have the correct codes to unlock BD on this computer. Way back, I'd upgraded from 3.0 to 3.5, and then to 3.6. Back in April 2006, I'd reinstalled BD 3.5 on my desktop, and had an issue with the codes not being recognized - I sent you the "unlock by mail" User codes and you sent the appropriate Reg key numbers. But those aren't working (probably because I'm now on 3.6, or perhaps because I'd installed on the laptop planning it as an installation for my friend?)

In any event, the current "User Codes" for unlock by mail are:

272861956 and

2411695

If I need new reg codes because of the change of install process, please let me know - and as always, Thanks!

Hi Kevin,

You just want to a) install 3.6 (not 3.5), and 2) use your 3.6 license only (not 3.5).

That is all you need to do. Let me know if I can assist further.

Jeff,

I thought I was up and running but I guess I'm not. I can enter sightings but I cannot print or view my checklist or sightings. It tells me that I must select a vaild taxi list. When I try to type in my license number and password it is not valid.

However the only license to show up when checking the drop down is The Basic User license.

What to do? I can't afford the Clements 2008 yet.

Hello Danny,

I only see purchases from you for

a) v3.5 Basic User License, and
b) Clements 2004

Have you activated both on your new computer? Use "Help -> License Information", then click on the Unlock Now button.

Let me know,
Jeff

I have a similar problem. Since I had to reinstall Windows several times since I registered the Diary for the first time (I think two years ago), it now says that my LicenceID has been used too many times.
My Customer ID is: 2236137
The BD License ID is 318448 and the Clement's ID is 318447.

Is it possible to reset so I can register it again?

Thanks in advance,
Jan

Jeff is on holiday for a couple more days.

I am sure he will do it when he returns.

As a result of a disk crash, I recently had to reinstall Birders Diary 3.6. When I run the activate license program, it says that the program is already activated. However, the program itself says that I am still running a demo and only have 9 days left. What gives? How do I actually activate the license?

Hello Mark,

Your only license (ID=439158) show that it has not been activated since 2006.

Try activating this license. If it still fails, walk me through exactly what you do. And any messages/errors you recieve.

If you are installed on Vista, please be sure to read the FAQ at the top of this page discussing activation of BD on Vista.

Let me know please,

Jeff

The license ID you provided seems to have done the trick.  I do not have Vista, and the problem seems to have been cured.

Thanks for the info.

Mark
