I had Birder's Diary version 2.5.3 and had built a database that I would not like to lose.  The software developed the following error and would not open:

"Can't load (or register) custom control:  THREED.OCX (#367) occured in modBDiary.Main"

I reinstalled Birder's Diary version 2 and upgraded it to version 2.0.2 but did not have the upgrade files to bring it back to version 2.5.3.  The software now opens but does not recognize the old database.

Is it likely the old database can be converted to Birder's Diary 3.6 since I cannot load it to create the ZIP file needed for conversion?

Thank you

JAC

Hi JAC,

You do not need to "load it" in order to create the ZIP file needed for conversion.

All I need is the "bird_dat.mdb" file - your v2 database. Do you still have that?

Yes.  Size is 25,632 KB.  Would I send it to you "as is"?

Hi JAC,

Can you please ZIP the file first? In windows explorer, right-click on the database file (bird_dat.mdb) and choose Send to => Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a compressed/zipped version of the file. Then upload that one.

Hi Judith,

I received your v2 database and confirm that it is valid and can be converted to v3.6. You had 1,332 sightings records in it.

If you would like to proceed, you will need to purchase the Upgrade to 3.6 from 2.x license. Please see the complete instructions on this web site - on the page "Product Info :: Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0".

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jeff

p.s. I am leaving tomorrow on a 10 day vacation and will not be able to complete this work until I return.

Jeff,

Thank you for checking the database. We appreciate knowing it is still valid and can be converted. No further questions at this time.

Enjoy your vacation!

I'm helping my mother upgrade from 2.5 to 3.6. the old database appears to be and .ldb file, I zipped this file and uploaded it. got a message stating I needed prior authorizaition, I uploaded it anyway. Where do I get prior authorization and is the .ldb file the correct file from 2.5?

I have included to idb file here as an attachement

thanks

Hello Suzanne,

Don't worry about the prior authorization message - your upload got to me.

Unfortunately, bird_dat.ldb is not the correct file. We need bird_dat.mdb. Notice the difference in the file extension. Let me know if you are having trouble finding this file.

Hi Suzie,

Let me ask a few questions please:

  1. Did you review the page on this web site - Product Info => Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0?
  2. Does your mother's system with v2.5 installed on it still exist? If so, you should be able to find bird_dat.mdb per the instructions on the page referenced in #1 above. Send me that file if you have it.
  3. The file you sent me is a backup of a v2.5 database with 6,202 sightings in it. Did you send this file because you no longer have access to the full database? The full database works better for me. It takes me some time to restore a v2.5 backup.

Let me know on this please,

Jeff
