Hi,

My BD program got corrupted somehow, and I'm attempting to replace it on my computer (running XP Home version).  I'm getting messages that the program is unable to detect the database in C:Birder's Diary/Data/database.mdb.  When I reinstalled, I downloaded BDv36 from the web site, and then I replaced the "data" file that automatically comes with my backup database.  Any idea what's happening.

When I downloaded, I left my Kaspersky antivirus on -- could that be the problem?

Chuck,

The problem is probably in the name of the database.

Birder's Diary uses a file called "database.mdb" to store information in. When it creates a backup file, it saves the backup (by default) as database_bck.mdb. So if you deleted database.mdb, and just dropped database_bck.mdb in its place, the program will not know there is a valid database available.

If that's the case, rename the file from database_bck.mdb to database.mdb (right-click on the file, then choose "rename", and change the name accordingly).

If that's not the case, Jeff may have more ideas, but ordinarily anti-virus programs, acting properly, shouldn't trigger something like that.

Hi Kevin,

I found a copy of the saved database, and all seems now to be working well.  Thanks, Kevin!
