I think we have to consider this a Microsoft Problem. Jeff, I exported some sightings to a CSV file, and then to Excel, looked at the data with Hex Edit, and see no special or hidden characters. The first 10 or so Comment characters, on which it sorts, are exactly what they should have been. I even manually keyed in the same comments into a replacement record, and it also failed to sort properly. I could take the problem down to just four sightings, with short Comment field, and get it to fail. And since you are using the Microsoft Sort and interface, it must be Microsoft. It failed both in the View/Edit screen and the Reports output, but only on certain sightings. The size of the Comments field should not be a problem (less than 65K!). I'm willing to close this if you are. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor, and I can live with this. Thanks for working with me on this last week. -Joe

I could take the problem down to just four sightings, with short Comment field, and get it to fail. Joe, If you put the four fields in Excel and sort them, what happens? What are the four fields you tried?

They sort just fine in Excel. I emailed to you the CSV file, Excel spreadsheet with four sightings, along with some screen captures of my settings when the sort fails. Thanks, -Joe
