When I run a lifelist, most birds come up correct, but several birds are listed in French rather than English. I suppose this happened because, some time ago, I experimented with trying to make a list of birds of France in French, but I don't want my Peruvian ones, for example, that way. How can I make all my life list birds show up in English? I'm using 3.5.

Hi,

The easiest way is to re-import your tax lists. This will put them back to their default state. Which taxonomic lists are you using? Do you have the original Import files for them?

Other than that, it depends on exactly how you changed the names in the first place. Were you using the Language/Region Editor? If so, you should have original name sets that you can revert to in that editor.

Let me know,

Jeff

I see this problem when I run a life list in Clements 2004. It does not appear when I use Clements 6.3.2, but I need both to handle splits to in the new list.
I must have been using the language/region editor, but it was a long time ago, and I don't know how to use it really.
In it, I find this when I click on the Language/Region List menu :

Taxonomy <'Birds - Clements - World - 2004'> names replaced by Lang/Reg List <'French'>

Is there a way to easily return to the Clements 2004 default common names?

Yes! Right answer.

The "Taxonomy <'Birds - Clements - World - 2004'> names replaced by Lang/Reg List <'French'>" was created when you made the changes to help you revert back. So,

1. Select that Language/Region List from the dropdown

2. Select your Clements 2004 tax list in the Taxonomy dropdown

3. Click the Set Common Names button.

That will put your names back.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Jeff, when I make a life list or a report for my South/central Pan American road trip, Some of the common names come out in Spanish.  I used the language editor to switch the names back to English, but not all of the names have changed.  I did switch the names to spanish while in SouthAm, to make a list with the spanish names but couldn't make a list, with my skills with both english and spanish, so I tried to change it back.  If I use the AOU 2008 South American list everything is in english, but not with the Clements World.  I must have done something to make things perminant on Clements... So what can I do?

Thanks,

Gary Peebles

PS. Is it possible to make a list with both spanish and an English name for birds?

Hi Gary,

Whenever you change names using the Language/Region Editor, it creates a list first that contains all the names before they changed. So, all you have to do is to apply that saved list to your tax list. Pick it from the "Language/Region list" dropdown - it will have a name that reflects the tax list changed and when it was changed. Select the tax list in question, then click the Update button.

If you can't find this list or it isn't working, you can delete that tax list using the Tax Viewer, and then reimport it. You will get all of your English names back.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Jeff
