The password supplied to unzip the Clements download file gives error "incorrect password". It is the password I recieved on invoice # 280771. The password for the downloaded upgrade to 3.6 did work and the program is installed. Also I don't see a download item for the associated checklist.

Thanks Gary

Hello Gary,

The download and installation of tax lists changed a couple months ago. You purchased Clements 2008, that is not the current tax list available, which is Clements 2008 v6.3.2. Your purchased password will not work on that as you have found out.

Is there some reason you are trying to download the 2008 version now? You should have already downloaded and imported that when you purchased.

Let me know please, and sorry for the confusion.

Jeff

Jeff
I did download the 2008 version on my other computer in Tucson AZ some time ago. I Just now downloaded the upgrade 3.6 to this computer in Seattle and downloaded the 2008 tax list as I did for the other computer, not being aware that it was not the current one. I have only used the 2008 version for about six months, do you mean that I have to purchase 6.3.2 already to get 6.3.2 to work on this computer?

Hi Gary,

No - you do not need to purchase any upgrades. What you want to do is to replace the database on your new system with the one on your other system. It contains all of your data as well as all your taxonomic lists.

The basic process is:

  1. make a backup of your database from your old system
  2. Take it to your new system and copy it to somewhere on your local drive.
  3. The open BD on your new system and perform a RESTORE (File | Backup/Restore) by selecting the backup you put there from #2 above.
  4. Exit BD and restart it after any Restore operation.
  5. Then activate your Clements 2008 license if you haven't done so already (Help | License Information | Unlock Now)

Let me know if I can assist with any of this.

Jeff,
That worked for the tax list but I don't think I have the current checklist. The one I have for instance does not list the Cackling Goose or Dusky Grouse for example. I seem to recall that before there was a separate download for checklists but I didn't find it in the downloads section. I followed the instructions for "Import Associated Checklist, if one exists" but when I came to the item "Browse to..." there is no CSV file that I can find. Also is the v6.3.2 a free upgrade and if not what is the cost?
Thanks again for all your help,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Clements 2008, the one you have, certainly has Cacking Goose and Dusky Grouse. How are you trying to view these two species (exaclty what steps and features of BD are you using)? You had to download the separate checklist file prior to Feb 2009 (e.g. Clements 2008) and import it separately per the instructions on the web site at that time. The new procedure takes care of all of that for you. So - it may be that you are missing the checklist data. Let me know on the question above.

The information on upgrading from 2008 to 2008-v6.3.2 can be found on the Purchase => Online Store page on this site. The cost for you is $59 since you own the 2008 version.

I can also provide you with the old 2008 checklist data for free if you like. It is no longer on the Downloads page and I will provide it some other way. So let me know on that one please.

Jeff

Clements 2008 that I have does include the Goose and Grouse, it is the checklist that I have that does not. In searching through files backed up to bring from the other computer I found "Birds-Clements-2008-checklist.csv". Am now in the process of importing it and hope it is the correct one.
Thanks,
Gary

Jeff,
The checklist import has been running for 15 hours and I still have the hour glass and the message "Added 0 records, Removed 0 records" Is it about time to give up and try again or live with the old checklist.

Hi Gary,

If you have the message about "added... and removed..." then it is done. Try clicking on that message to close it.

Jeff,
It worked. I thought that because the hour glass was showing that it hadn't completed the import. The checklist is now accurate.
Thanks for all your help.

Jeff,
Unrelated but came up when I got the updated program installed. I am able to back up to my thumb drive contrary to some posts that indicate you must backup to main hard drive and copy to flash drive. My backup flash drive is a 2g Attache connected to a Dell dual core XPS 410.

Thanks Gary. I have to recommend backing up to your hard drive first because not all flash drives work for some reason. The only sure way is to backup to your hard drive first and then use Windows Explorer to move it to your flash drive. But if yours works, then keep doing it that way.

Thanks for the update,
Jeff
