I will be checking e-mail and her every half hour from now on. Just let me know when you want me to be ready to start, and I will. I think I have resolved both the e-mail and the download problem, but may need a little clarification. Thanks for your patience.

Jeff,

  Diary is now working beautifully on Vista. One problem remains however. When I try to backup to my external harddrive, everything goes well until I actually try to save. Then I get the message "Database already exists (Error #3204). What change do I have to make?

  I will check back later today.

Hello Bill.

Please read the Online Help topic on this web site for the Backup window (Support => Online Users Guide, then go to Windows => Backup/Restore Window).

You must backup to your local hard drive and then use Windows Explorer to move it to any external hard drive.

Your error doesn't make sense to me. I don't understand, everything goes well until I actually try to save it. Please walk me through exactly every step up to that error.

Jeff,

    Here are the steps:

1. Would you like to backup?      I choose "Yes"   goes to:

2. Hard disk list. My external hard-drive is listed correctly as F:      I hit "backup"    goes to:

3. Backup already exists. Want to overwrite it with a new copy?   I hit "yes"     goes to:

4. You requested a backup from C: data\database.mbl to F:     I hit "yes"    goes to:

5. Error window message listed above.

Hi Bill,

Quick followup:

First - thanks for the details you provided above.

Seconde - after re-reading the error now - is it possible that the backup you are trying to overwrite on your external hard drive is marked as ReadOnly - and therefore prevents you from overwriting the existing file?

Try this - please backup to F: drive again - but this time, specify a new filename - such as "BDbackup20090527.mdb". See if that doesn't work for you.

Great! Thanks for the update Bill. Just change the name from now on to reflect the date of the backup and you should be good.
