Jeff

When I went use Birder's Diary 3.6 today I got a notice saying " This Demo Version of Birder's Diary has expired .........etc.". Yes I installed  new software for a Canon printer. Yes I rebooted it and this did not fix it. This is very reminiscent of a very similar and very frustrating problem I had a couple of years ago.

Hi Kirk,

The answer should be as simple as re-entering your 3.5 Adv User License: 215197; using the Unlock Now button on the License Information window. You must be connected to the internet to perform this action.

Let me know,

Jeff

Thanks for the error msg Kirk.

I have sent you your license ID and password via email.

That error msg indicates that either the info you entered was incorrect (try again with the data I sent you via email) or that your system was not connected to the internet when you tried to unlock.

Let me know please,

Jeff

After putting the # and password in it said liscence activated. Unfortunately all the buttons on the top "add. view/edit ect." are greyed out and don't work. I quit the program and then retarted it getting the " demo version...." sign again. Again I entered the # and password and the licence was activated but the program doesn't work. kirk

Hi Kirk,

Are you running Windows VISTA? If so, then to activate your license, you need to start BD by right-clicking on the BD desktop icon and choosing Run as Admin. Then license, activate, exit and restart BD normally. All should be good then.

Please let me know if you are not on Vista and this is happening.

Hi Kirk,

I got your email that said you are on XP, not Vista.

So, tell me, what changes had you made to your computer between the time you last used BD and it worked and the time you used BD and it stated that your license had expired?

Can we setup a time tomorrow morning (you go ahead and specify time and timezone as long as it is after 8am MDT) when I can get onto this system and have a look?

Signing off for the day,

Jeff

The only recent change was adding a cannon printer. I should be home from work a bit early so I will try to contact you about 1700 EST. Kirk

Sounds good Kirk. I may not be back from a meeting by that time. I could be as late as 1900 EST. If so, I will contact you as soon as I get back.

I worked on Kirk's system a bit yesterday. A re-install nor a de-install followed by a reinstallation would work. Activation succeeded in each case, but when BD was closed and re-opened it reported that the license had expired.

Kirk shared with me that he had recently had his computer cleaned (a term used when someone manually edits the registry, removes files, etc.) by someone in his tech department. And that is when this problem started occuring. I have warned folks in the past not to do this nor to use any automated software that claims to do such. As this usually renders many pieces of software, including BD, unusuable. Usually when someone does this, they will create a restore point, that allows you to revert your system back to a time before any of the cleaning work is performed should something like this happen. Kirk will check into this with his tech dept and get back to us on the results.

fyi

Jeff
