Hi Jeff,

I installed Windows 7 over Vista on a 32-bit Dell computer.

I am unable to access the v3.6.49 BD program because of error #339 - missing agentctl.dll

This is obviously due to Microsoft Agent "Petey" not working on Windows 7 (although he works fine on Vista)

I saw a hotpatch on the Microsoft web site that might work, but I think it would be better just to install the missing file.

It was easy to find agentctl.dll on the web by doing a Google search.
Now, where to I put it ? -- be very precise.

Also FYI - the splash screen is a bit off -- see attached image.
Don't you just LOVE new operating systems!!

Good Birding,

Hi Pete,

You brave soul - you.

There is a FAQ at the top of this page dealing with error 339. You need to install the HotFix. Directions are in the FAQ above. I haven't really dug into it that much, but I am not sure that restoring agentctl.dll is all that the hotfix does.

Suffice to say, that BD 3.6.49 has now been installed on a few hundred Windows 7 computers (upgrades and fresh installs; 32-bit and 64-bit processors), and this hotfix has solved the problem in all cases. So, I think it is the safest way to go for now.

I believe that for the v3.7 release of BD, I will have to remove Petey for good. Since this has been Microsoft's stance on Petey from Vista on...

This problem occurs because Microsoft has decided to stop the development of Microsoft Agent technologies. Therefore, Microsoft Agent is not included in Windows 7, and it will not be included in any later versions of the Windows operating system.

Too bad.

Let me know if you require assistance with this hotfix or anything else Pete.

Jeff

I ran the Hotifx and everything worked find EXCEPT my licenses were "erase". I think was a result of the Vista->Windows 7 upgrade.

Hello C.V.,

I have reset your activations. Please re-activate your licenses as per the FAQ for Windows 7 at the top of this page.

fyi

Jeff
