Subject: Windows 7 and error 339 New Problem

So, I clicked on the FAQ question above and followed everything.  Downloaded the "fix" from Microsoft and attempted to install it.

Now, when attempting to install agent I get this error:  This update is not applicable to your computer.

I have NO idea why that is happening.  This is Windows 7 Home Premium version and Diary will not run without giving me the error.

Any ideas anyone?

Is there anyway to get a version of Diary without Petey.  I never used him anyways.

So, I tried extracting the agent install file to the Desktop INSTEAD of my C:\ drive and it worked. Just a heads up for other Windows 7 users. I have NO idea why it finally worked this way, but I tried it many times unsuccessfully before. I did note that with Firefox the update page hid one of the install files on the Microsoft Update page.

Hi Lee,

So all is working now? In the FAQ above for the Compatibility/Petey error, I mention that there is an extra step to actually installing the hotfix form Microsoft. I suspect that may be what was missed the first time.Simply downloading it and extracting doesn't do the job. One actually has to execute the MSU file inside. Gack!

Also, you mention in the title "error 339", which is a different error and FAQ above from the Petey/compatibility problem you mention. Let me know if you are still getting any errors.

Ah, I assumed the missing file had to do with Petey. No, I had actually run the MSU file every time, it was after that I would get the message that said the "update not applicable to your computer." I think the key was that the first few fixes I tried I was using Firefox browser. When I used IE, the page for the hotfix looked different the file to download was accessed differently.

After getting it to actually install, BD is working just fine!

Thanks for the info Lee. I don't know why things are so hard with FireFox. I don't use it. For no reason other than IE works great and I never have problems with it.
