I notice Herring Gull does not appear on the ABA, USA and state checklists.  Is something missing in my software or is this just an oversight?

Mostly likely neither. I show that you have, among others, ABA 2008 with Subspecies. The Herring Gull that appears in NA, using that tax list, is the subspecies Larus argentatus smithsonianus.

The question I have for you is how are you determining that "the Herring Gull does not appear on the ABA, USA and state checklists"? Let me know on this one.

Perhaps you have not imported the associated Checklist import file for ABA 2008 with Subspecies. As both the full species L. argentatus and L. a. simthsonianus are associated with the appropriate locations. In either case, you should re-import it, using the settings shown below in the screen shot. That should fix any situation.

If not, let me know what you are doing that makes you think it is not linked to correct checklist locations.
