Although this has always worked for me in the past, I can no longer use Checklist Entry.  No matter what options I select on the Sightings Entry Setup window, I get a fatal error with the message "Bad string for sort" Latest Error Properties: 0 =".  Keyboard Entry works okay, just not Checklist Entry.

I attach a screen hunter view.  I am using Birder's Diary version 3.6.49.

Hi Bert,

Hmmmmm. I see that the SORT dropdown in your screen shot is empty. I assume that this error occurs when you click on the Continue button - yes?

Please try selecting a value from the Sort dropdown before clicking Continue. Let me know if that works.

Sorry for the problem here.

Jeff,

Yes, it happens when I click the Continue button.

Selecting one of the sort choices, e.g., Taxonomically, solves the problem.  Curiously, once the field is set I can find no way to make it blank again.

I wondering how it was cleared in the first place.  The one thing I did that was different is that I bought and downloaded the 2009 AOU update and this is the first time I attempted the Checklist Entry method for that particular taxonomy.

Whatever the reason, having the software verify a proper sort method and warning the user would be more elegant that crashing the program.

Never seen this before Bert. Did you run a registry cleaner or some such thing?

Will fix. Glad all is working.

No, I didn't run a register cleaner.

But that reminds me of something else.  Every few months I have to go into the registry to clear the settings for the window size.  Several years ago I reported that I could not restore down the BD window, only allowing full screen or minimized.  After this happening many times I finally figured out what was messing up my registry settings.  I use two screens, one on the notebook and one on a large monitor attached to the VGA port.  If I move BD to the large monitor, disconnet the monitor later to carry my notebook elsewhere and use with only its internal screen and then use BD again I have the problem.  It is caused by not telling Windows that I am no longer using the external monitor.  It does not fix itself when I reconnect, so I have to go into the registry to reset.

By the way, I have not encountered this resizing problem with any other software I use.
