Hi there!

I'm using the german translations of birds' names but discovered, that the program doesn't allow me to edit sightings. When I tried to change to location, the following error occured:

"Invalid Smart Search Value!

This value not allowed.
It doesn't match any known values!
This SmartSearch field does not allow new values."

And it is not possible to re-enter the German name of the bird. I have to look up the English name to leave this window successfully. Although this is a nice English-training, I would like to get rid of this detour.

Can I get onto your system sometime tomorrow and see this; then fix it. It should work, but I need to see just what is going on.

Thanks for your swift response! I will contact you today (email via forum?) and tell you when ready for desktop sharing. Since Germany uses CET (central european time), it will be 8 hours time difference. I assume, it will be around 1pm in Colorado.

You will tell me when to push the "start session" button then?

Update: got on Matthias' system and the problem was what I figured. Sometimes, if the system crashes or other problems occur while in BD, you can corrupt the lookup tables. It is easy to reset with an edit of the registry.

1. Exit BD if running.
2. Open the registry editor (regedit)
3. browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Birders Diary\Settings
4. edit the key on the right named OptimizeDatabaseSearch and change its value from 'false' to 'true'
5. Exit the registry editor and restart BD.

all is well now.
