Are you saying that you are getting RTE 1004 on your system after installing v3.6.49 (please confirm this is the version you installed) and upon attempting to start BD?

What version of Windows are you running? What type of computer? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Are you using the demo database installed with the installation or another from a previous installation?

Yes, downloaded latest version.

Old PC is Microsoft XP Home 2002 running on 64 KB AMD Athlon 2.08Ghz 512 RAM. Son uses for computer games.

Maybe I should have downloaded the program to my old laptop Sony Vaio Windows vista. I was hoping to have it on a PC with a big monitor for ease of working even though the XP computer is really slow. 

I did have the trial program on the Sony but deleted it. I deleted it because previous migration secretary gave me data file of reports from last decade. However, these were password protected. I couldn't open even with a password that she gave me. Any practice files saved to that database file, so I removed it [saved to a stick] and deleted the trial version.

Then I went shopping for new computer after Christmas and bought the Mac, only to discover there is not a MAC version of the software.

At this point feel I have more computers than brains.

Should I move the program to my Sony Vaio and just forget the XP?

Hi Marilyn,

My review of this error message is that it indicates that one or more system libraries (e.g. database, jet, etc) are missing or invalid, or incorrect versions on your XP 2002. Attemping to correct this might well not be worth it.

Is there any text with this error at all? Or is it only "RTE 1004"?

My strong suggestion is to use that new MAC you got. Simply purchase Parallels (Google "parallels mac") and put it on your MAC. Then you can install and use BD on your MAC. Many, many BD users do this if they have MACs.

Hello Marilyn,

For v3.6, all of the help and video works easiest with XP, same for talking bird, Petey. Starting with Vista and Win7, there are some problems with help and videos (see FAQ at top of this page) that you can work around; also Petey requires some setup pampering (see FAQ at top of this page).

All of these issues, except Petey which MS is deprecating, are resolved in v3.7.
