07/01/2010 12:04 AM Alert

I will try to post this again as I did yesterday but can't find it anywhere.  On 1/1/2010 I received a message that my "temporary" license had expired for BD 3.5.  I tried to input my licence code and password but receive a message that the password is incorrect.

Now I have a new computer and am unable to use the software, again because it is not recognizing the password.  How can I start using the software again?  I know the password is the one previously used as I wrote it down on the original software case.

Thanks.

Hello Matthew,

I will send you email with your License ID and password. Also, please note, if activating your license on Windows Vista or 7, use the instructions at the top of this page in the FAQ.

Hi Jeff,

This still doesn't work. Is the license ID the same as the registration code? When I try to regirster the software it asks for a registration code. When I type in the 6-digit license ID you provided it says, "The registration code you entered could not be validated."

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Matthew,

I have been away on holiday. Sorry for my delayed response.

It sounds as if you have installed v3.0 instead of v3.5. v3.0 asked for a registration code, while v3.5 does not.

Install v3.5 from the bottom of the Downloads page on this site. You have a license for v3.5.

Let's start here.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I am now getting a message that I'm trying to use Version 3.5 without owning a licensed version of 3.x. I now have both 3.0 and 3.5 installed on my PC. Do I need to uninstall version 3.x or what should I do?

Thanks

Sorry, but I just reinstalled 3.5 as I had received a message that it was not done properly (from Window 7). After reinstalling I am now getting a different error message that says that I need to contact the software technical support to get more license keys. Can you assist with that?

Thanks.

Hello Matthew,

Yes - the license you have (upgrade from 3.0 to 3.5) checks to make sure that you have v3.0 installed on your system. Install v3.0, then install v3.5. Activate your v3.5 license, but do not remove v3.0 from your system. I have reset your activation count.

That should do it.

Let me know if anything else comes up.

Jeff

Sorry but this is still not working. I am running version 3.5 and trying to register it with the code and password provided. I'm now I am now again getting a message that I'm trying to use Version 3.5 without owning a licensed version of 3.x. I now have both 3.0 and 3.5 installed on my PC. What do I do now?

By the way, the software is running and seems to work fine, but I'm recieving a message that it is only a temporary license and I have 25 days left.

Thanks

Hi Matthew,

I added a non-upgrade 3.5 Adv user license to your Online Store account. Please use license #60669046. Use your same password.

If you are activating on Vista and/or "7", be sure to use the activation instructions at the top of this page.

Let me know please,

Jeff

Jeff,

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

I thought I'd email on this same thread since the problems could somehow be related?

I have been using the Birder's Diary software again (version 3.5) with success and was able to use the Clements checklist until yesterday when I received a message that the checklist is unlicensed. I've have been using this checklist for many years without problems. Do you know what could be causing this problem and how to fix it?

Thank you.

D'oh! The reason for the 3.5 upgrade license was to activate those.

Please use the instructions here: http://www.birdersdiary.com/Documentation/BDV37/BDV37/Activating_Your_Birder_s_Diary_Licenses.htm#MiniTOCBookMark5

to send me two user codes. This will activate your 3.5 upgrade license and all of the taxonomic lists (e.g. Clements) along the way.

So sorry for the confusion and issue,

Jeff
