Here's a wierd one.  I've been going back over my old records using the view/edit page.  One dated Dec. 28, 2002 showing several sightings at Hansen Dam (in Los Angeles County, CA), shows all entries as Gabor Goshawk.  It obviously overwrote my previous entries. Perhaps this happened when I updated to BD3.5, but I'm not certain when it actually happened.

Hello Jim,

Sorry for my delayed response. This one got lost in the shuffle.

Nothing in BD should ever do this and has never been reported as happening.

If you are sure that all of these Gabar Goshawk sightings are incorrect, then you should correct them as best you can based on memory or notes.

One way that this could have happened is that you selected all of the Hansen Dam sightings and clicked on Edit and as a group changed the name.

Did all of these Gabar Goshawk sightings use to exist as sightings of separate species or as many sightings of one species?

Jeff

Jeff,

Up to now, I've never heard of a Gabar Goshawk, much less recorded it into BD. The listing was the recording of a CBC with about 50 different species. I undestand how a "select all" then the entry of an incorrect species would end up showing multiple entries of the same species. But that could not have happened, because I would have had to type in the words Gabar Goshawk. Long-billed Dowitcher to replace Short-billed Dowitcher, I can understand.

The loss of these data is not important. I just thought I should call it to your attention.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Please let me know if you ever see this again and/or can possible recreate it at will.

Thanks for the info.
Jeff

The easiest explanation I can think of - because I have done it - is to type (or mistype) something into a SmartSearch text box and hit enter without validating what it matches on.

If Gabar Goshawk is on your database, I think that typing "ga" in a SmartSearch box will bring it up. It does on mine.

Edit:  As a matter of fact, just typng "g" will bring up "Gabar Goshawk"

Regards,
Steve
