Thanks for yesterday's tip on the "BD won't start up" topic, to hold down ALT to get the toolbar in Windows Explorer - this helps me in getting things to work under Windows 7.

I have the opposite problem. On starting my PC, BD automatically opens, and so does the BD Readme. Have been unable to find anything on startup settings in either Windows or BD that will stop this. Can you help?

Thanks - Ian

This is the week for weird installation issues for sure.

Is it the full BD application that starts, or just the "Check for Updates" mini-app?

Nothing in the Bd installation or the product itself registers itself to autostart on boot. In either case, the solution to stopping startup applications is by checking all the various places that Wiondows auto-starts apps on boot. I don't know the complete list off the top of my head, but know that there is

  • a user-specific startup folder
  • an all-users startup folder
  • various 3rd party apps that auto-start programs for you
  • Registry runonce and runalways keys that windows uses to start programs on boot
  • boot.ini

You might start with this site on the web: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article07-045

Let us know if you find the culprit please.

Jeff

Thanks, cause of problem found and fixed. For benefit of others struggling with Windows 7, I went from the Start menu to Administration Tools - System Configuration - Startup tab which showed a number of programs, all checked. Most of these were in the C:\Windows or C:\Program Files folders, but the last four were the BD main app, "Importing your Avisys data", "Check for updates" and the Readme. These four showed "Location" as C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Unchecking these four has stopped the autostarts. I really don't know how this came about - tried to keep the initial installation standard, but maybe selected the wrong option somewhere.

Thanks for updating us Ian. There is nothing, standard or otherwise, in the BD installation that does this. So it is not an option that you did or did-not choose during the installation. I can't imagine what did this. But, I knew it had to be Windows starting it - and that if you started digging you would find where that was happening.

Take care,
Jeff
