My husband has got very attached to Petey's lifelong celebrations and chattiness. However I currently can hear Petey snoring, rustling wings etc but speech has suddenly stopped working. He cannot tell a joke anymore. The balloons are there but suddenly no speech.

I have Prog v3.0.2 Database v3.1.5 and on Windows XP SP3. There is a file C:\WINDOWS\speech.dll. I have checked out your Support notes but most of it appears to be for Vista/Windows7 not XP.

From a http://www.microsoft.com/products/msagent/main.aspx link,  Microsoft appears to be not supporting the MS Agent anymore? However, any hints on being able to use it with Windows XP? I will attempt to download Peedy and see how it goes.

Hi,

Reinstalling Petey from microsoft is the best option. And usually does the trick. There are a few pieces to Petey (e.g. speech engine, character files, etc). Start with anything speech and keep installing until it starts working again.

Also, bring up the Control Panel => Speech Dialog in Windows to see if that gives any clues.

Something, perhaps recently installed software, has overriden Petey's functionality. Petey/MSAgent is very touchy and susceptible to accidental dismemberment. Probably one of the reasons Microsoft stopped supporting it.

Please let us know what you find out or if I can assist with anything.

Jeff
