I am new to Birder's Diary and would very much like to import my existing data from Wildlife Recorder.  However, whenever I try to import any .csv file from Recorder I get the message "The input file does not appear to match the selected format".   I would appreciate any advice on what I am doing wrong,

best regards,

Ian

Hello Ian,

And thanks for using BD.

The expected format of the sightings input file is documented here. Scroll down to the format table for sightings import file format.

Be sure you have a blank line as the first line in your CSV file.

One easy way to test your format out against what is expected is to enter a sample sighting, and then export it using the File > Import/Export window (Sightings TAB). Then open the exported CSV file and look at it. Note: The exported csv file will be using internal names for the bird; your import file should use standard common names and then you would use the "import personal sightings using common or scientific name" option.

Also, if you would like to post back and attach a sample of your CSV file you have created, I could let you know what I find wrong about it.

Thanks,

Jeff
