I downloaded and got BD2eBird working on by XT computer

When I populate the screen to generate an eBird import file, it does not generate a file if I orginally put the data in BD via the keyboard method.  Lists that were added via the check list method will work.  The Select Observations dropdown box for the added via the keyboard method shows has the area date and time (for example Beechwood Farms 6/21/2009 9:00AM) The error I get when I press Export is "No Observations"

If the data was added using the check list method the drop down box shows area date (for example Beechwood Farms 6/10/2009) .  When the Export button is press the  file is generated correctly.

Is there a work around?

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

Inside BD, there is no difference between a sighting created via keyboard entry versus one created via checklist entry. So, I wonder what BD2EB might be doing that would make a difference. My first guess would be that there is something else going on here.

Gerco, BD2EB author, is on vacation I believe and might not be back for a bit.

So, in the meantime, can you reduce this to simple steps that I could reproduce on my end. In other words, create exactly one sighting via keyboard, and one via checklist entry. Give me the exact specifics on how you created each. Then, using BD2EB, attempt to export each sighting, giving me all the exact steps and settings you use to attempt each. If it still fails on your end, I should be able to get it to fail on my end and hopefully figure out a workaround for this.

Let's start here. Thanks.

Jeff

Hi Stephen,

See if adding a sighting via the keyboard method, without specifying a time - just the date, makes any difference please. There may be a problem with specifying the time.

Let us know please,

Jeff

Jeff
I was able to add sightings via the keyboard method, just the date without specifying a time, and the BD2eBird program worked as expected, generating a report.

It sees the time part is being carried along somehow to the dropdown box, when data was entered with the keyboard method with specified time that does not happen with the checklist entry.

Let me know.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Steve. This will probably give Gerco enough to solve the problem.

Steve and Jeff,

The current version of the eBird toolkit does not handle time well. I will add code for this in the next release.

With respect to "time", do you (Steve) enter time for each observation or does it indicate the beginning of the trip? This informaion wil help me streamline the application.

Gerco

Thanks for getting back.

For me, the time entered in most cases is the middle time, half way between starting and ending, this is mostly to indicate rough time of day.  I put the time of start and end time in the comments section of the trip.

Steve
