Re: freeze-up during world checklist installation. It took my computer a little more than an HOUR to complete; so plan for the process. I also closed spy-sweepers and internet connection so the computer didn't have as many other things to be doing. We've installed the world list several times in beta over the past year or two. It so huge that it takes some time. An hour or more is a normal duration. Good luck Al Ahlgrim |

Al/Jeff. Thanks for your help. When I tried to import the Clements checklist update again this afternoon, I ignored the frozen screen & there were no problems. The whole process took about an hour-and-a-half.
Reverting to the problem with the checklist totals (see previous postings in this thread), here are the new figures for Nevada.
Without subspecies: 477
With subspecies: 481
So far, I've found 2 "orphaned" subspecies groups:
Cackling Goose ssps
Whimbrel ssps
Adding the parent forms of the 2 groups to the checklist closes the gap to 479/481. At present I don't have a clue as to the identity of the other 2 culprits, but I imagine they'll catch my eye eventually.
The Whimbrel parent form isn't on the Clements checklist for any of the states; Cackling Goose, on the other hand, is on the checklist for most states so its absence on the Nevada checklist could be the result of something I did.

Jeff,
You should check the current list to make sure that these are present:
Maine - Labrador Duck
Kansas - Harris' Sparrow
Louisiana - Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Flicker, Wilson's Snipe, Yellow-rumped Warbler
Oregon - Northern Three-toed Woodpecker
Utah - Wilson's Snipe
Wyoming - Cackling Goose
Also, check to make sure Wood Warbler is not appearing in the lower 48 - that word is a heading used by many of the checklists and I could easily have included the species known as Wood Warbler where it does not belong.

Per Pete's question and everyone else's input:
If you find errors, please do this:
- Correct the errors on your system using the Checklist Editor
- Then make two exports
- Set tax list to ABA-2006
- Check Include contained locations in Export
- Select USA for one export and Canada for the second
- Click on Export by Location push button once for each location in step 2.3
- Upload each export and post them here.
That allows me to import your changes with Analysis turned on and easily verify your changes. This also allows everyone else to do exactly the same and easily comment.
Then, when everyone is in agreement, I can easily export those two locations and update the downloads on the Downloads page. That is the process that all the new changes put in place for v3.6 have been meant to do: streamline the correction, analysis and implementation pieces of this process. Make sense?
Also, I have a new streamlined more efficient Checklist Editor coming as soon as I get one free moment from my 16+ hour days lately.
Looking forward to your posted corrections.
NOTE: Also, please note, that the thing Blue Grouse, should still be included as a superspecies in all NA checklists. If it is missing from any location that it should be included on, please correct that with any updates.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Thanks Pete. The first two were corrected in my master database. The remaining ones were already correct.
As per my previous comment, the quickest way for me - the one link in this cog which must update all comments from all users - is for you to post an updated checklist for USA and Canada and then I can import with analysis and quickly accept all changes. See the proper settings to use for your export in my previous post.
Thanks,

Jeff,
here is my USA ABA-2006 correction file.
It adds locations for the 4 orphans and removes AK in the existing checklist
Mugimaki Flycatcher
Taiga Flycather
Red-breasted Flycatcher (Removed)
Yellow-chevroned Parakeet
Caribbean Elaenia

Hello Al,
And thanks. Your import file (ABA-2006 with Overwrite Locations) would have me make the following changes to the master database. Do these all look correct to you?
--------------RECORDS TO ADD--------------- ADD: [Mugimaki Flycatcher] [ALASKA] [False] ] ADD: [Taiga Flycatcher] [ALASKA] [False] ] ADD: [Yellow-chevroned Parakeet] [CALIFORNIA] [False] ] ADD: [Caribbean Elaenia] [FLORIDA] [False] ] ADD: [Grey Partridge] [KANSAS] [False] ] ADD: [Long-billed Thrasher] [KANSAS] [False] ] ------------------------------------------- --------------RECORDS TO REMOVE--------------- REMOVE: [Black-throated Grey Warbler] [ARKANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [Broad-billed Hummingbird] [ARKANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [Northern Gannet] [ARKANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [Scott's Oriole] [ARKANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [West Indian Cave Swallow] [ARKANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [Sooty Shearwater] [CONNECTICUT] [False] ] REMOVE: [Harris's Sparrow] [KANSAS] [False] ] REMOVE: [Labrador Duck] [MAINE] [False] ] ----------------------------------------------
Thanks,
Jeff |

Actually - those REMOVEs were part of an update that Pete had me do. So this all looks correct if I disable the removes.
Thanks, Jeff |

Jeff,
I was about to say that I did not mess with any other species or locations. My four additions are there. However, I did not see a Red-breasted Flycatcher removed line item in your post. Was that done as well?

Hi Al,
It does not remove Red-breasted Flycatcher from Alaska, because that bird is not part of the ABA tax list. And this checklist must be imported with
Tax list = ABA Overwrite Locations
settings. Does RBFL not occur in Alaska in reality?

Jeff, Al, et al.
What's the documentation for adding Gray Partridge and Long-billed Thrasher to the KS list? As near as I can tell, neither species is on their state list. A record of LB Thrasher was rejected in 2000.
Is there no Cave Swallow thing? How did that happen? No big deal, but it's a little confusing (e.g. the subspecies that would occur in AR is the Mexican Cave Swallow P.f. pelodoma, not the West Indian Cave Swallow P.f. fulva).
I would be hesitant to add a state location to Caribbean Elaenia or Yellow-chevroned Parakeet. Although the ABA has these two species on its list, the state records committees have the final say on their own checklists (I think the ABA even says this somewhere). It's a very odd situation, for sure. Therefore, I think the two species should be attached to only the ABA Area location and not to any state. This would reflect the choices made by the appropriate records committees (i.e. they would be on the ABA checklist but not a state checklist). Adding the state locations to these birds may make people think that the species are on the states' official checklists, but they are not. Just my two cents...

Your import file contained settings to add these birds to Kansas. I had removed them already based on updated information.
Cave Swallow exists for Arkansas. It was not in yours as again, I had updated information in my master database. I will re-release updated import files soon.
Hmmm - since my database is always going to be more up to date than yours, perhaps, you should just post the changes I should make in written form here. So that your checklist export doesn't overwrite changes I have made in the meantime.
Hmmmm.... back to re-do the changes I had in place.

Jeff,
Correct, Red-breasted Flycatcher does not occur in AK at all. The change to Taiga Flycatcher was the result of a split of RB/Taiga Flycatchers adopted by the ABA. All records from AK refer to Taiga Flycatcher. So RBFL should not be attached to Alaska or any other ABA location.

Jeff,
The head of the Kansas Bird Checklist Committee, emailed me today.
He said that Gray Partridge and Long-billed Thrasher should NOT be on the Kansas list.
