Almost.

The ABA occasionally recognizes a species not found on the AOU list. I believe that the Fea's/Zino's Petrel is currently in that state, and is on the ABA but not the AOU list, or at least that was the case last year.

Regards,
Steve

Jeff,

I was doing a cross reference check of AOU tax birds in the "ABA Area" Location. One bird popped up as an anomaly. The "Checklist Editor" shows Pennsylvania as one of the locations for Kermadec Petrel. In the AOU 45th Supplement , the Pennsylvania record was re-assessed and ruled not definitive. Bottom line is no Kermadec Petrel for PA by AOU edict. I could not access the Official PORC Checklist web site to verify if PA is still carrying that record.

Al & Jeff,

Kermadec Petrel is not on PA's official checklist: http://www.pabirds.org/PORC/PORC_Official_List.htm

I think this was the Hawk Mountain petrel from many years ago.  I'm glad to learn that this record was reversed b/c it was way too odd to be accepted on a sight record (at least, I don't think any pics were obtained).

I spoke too soon about photos.  The attached article details the sighting, which was documented on video.  I guess AOU took it off their list b/c some very experienced East Coast pelagic birders feel that Herald/Trinidade Island Petrel could not be eliminated from the single still photograph in the article.  The gentleman who shot the video apparently has refused to let the film be reinspected, despite the fact that a look at the upperparts would easily ID the bird.  Disappointing...

Are these listed under another name, for some reason I do not see them on the downloads page.

Hi Johnniegtx:

Things have changed since last year. Checklist file/downloads/updates are tied to the taxonomic lists that they pertain too. So - if you have a license for a certain taxonomic list, you can get the latest checklist data for it from the Downloads page. It requires the ZIP password from your Invoice for the purchase of said tax list.

Let me know if this isn't clear. I am not sure I made that clear.
Jeff

I think I am covered, I didn't look at the date of the original email. I try to keep updated with the latest info. Thanks.

Dear Jeff,

Haven't checked in for a while so lots of recent developments seem to have passed me by.  But it was great to see that the checklist data are being regularly updated - this will turn into a really valuable resource.  As usual, though, I seem to be having problems accessing them.  You say:-

These checklist downloads are available from the Downloads page on this site. There are three new download files under the Checklist Data section on that page.

  • Birds - ABA/Canada - 2006-Oct (5,659 records)
  • Birds - ABA/USA - 2006-Oct (22,075 records)
  • Birds - Clements/World - 2006-Oct (604,957 records)

But when I go into this page I see only:-

Sorry to be so slow - nobody else has had this problem so I'm sure the update is there somewhere.

Hello Graham.

Things have changed. See the post by myself two before yours - 10/17/2007. The latest greatest for each taxonomic list can be downloaded and imported if you have a license.

Let me know if you have further questions,
Jeff

Dear Jeff,

I know I have a license but I haven't a clue what the ZIP password is. Is there any way you could send it to me by e-mail? All I have at home is a copy of a CD (of some much earlier version) with some license numbers stuck on the inside ...

Best wishes,

Graham

Hello Graham,

Interesting multi-post feature you have there? Unfortunately, there also seems to be a bug in the Forum software which crashes the forum software if I try to delete the multiple entries. Sigh...

Instructions exist on the Downloads page on how to retrieve your ZIP password. It is in the FAQ section at the top. It is the last FAQ in the list. I include this for reference and general info.

However, I have done as you requested and emailed a copy of it to you.

Let me know if I can assist further,
Jeff
