Jeff,

The CBRC has added Bluethroat to the California state bird list as noted below. Since it is already in the ABA and  AOU checklists all that is needed is to add CA as a location for the Bluethroat. This is supporting info for you to update BD at the next update.

Regards AL Borodayko

Cypress, CA

Thanks Al.

I have updated the master BD database and this will be included on all subsequent Taxonomic updates.

In addition, I have included a flash video on this post that demonstrates how to do this task yourself.

For what it is worth, when I click on that link my browner (Firefox) downloads a file named Updating (no suffix) of 2094 KB. Not much I can do with that. Perhaps it means you are in the middle of updating the file?

Here is a second Flash file (extension SWF) that shows how to make the change using the right side of the Checklist Editor.

Interesting Roy.

When I use FireFox (latest version - v3.0.6) it gives me the screenshot below asking me how I want to open the SWF file. I select an option and the video immediately plays.

How does your experience differ from that?

Jeff

I don't have Macromedia Flash Player installed. I do have Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX, and Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin. I have not run into anything I could not play before.

Just to see what would happen I picked a few other programs to try to view it. RealPlayer showed the first screen, then went blank and just continued with the sounds, but with a horrible humming. Irfanview works, but with the horrible humming.

So I just installed Adobe Shockwave, but it does not appear in the pull-down list as a choice.

Hi Roy,

Very strange. I can choose many options, including IE or Firefox to display the SWF file and it all works with no problem. If you click the browse (or was it a select) button, you get several options. IE and FireFox both worked for me.

I can't figure this one out, and I'm going to let it be for the moment.

I am starting to think that the reason I can play the SWF files is because I have the software on my system that creates them.

So I will now try on other systems without that software.

Ok - on a clean Vista system without any 3rd party software on it:

  1. It didn't know which file to use to show it
  2. I selected to search the web to find an app
  3. It automatically took me to the Install Adobe Flash for free web site
  4. I installed it, and when I attempted to run it again, I got the same "don't know what to use to display this file" message
  5. This time, it offered up a selection of Internet Explorer
  6. I selected it and the video ran without distortion or problem

A bit of a hassel, but from step 1 to step 6 was only 60 seconds.

fyi

Jeff
