In all 3.x versions of Birder's Diary with Clement's taxonomic list, Yellow Wagtail has no location data. This import file quickly corrects that.
Common Name: Yellow Wagtail Scientific Name: Motacilla flava Internal BD Thing Name: World Yellow Wagtail
Use the settings as shown below to import this file. |

Jeff,
Could you create a sticky post in the support forum that has an overview of all issues and fixes like this (the wagtail, the herring gull etc) so someone like me who just downloaded the 2005 clements and the world checklist knows which fixes to apply OR do you update this in the main download files as soon as you post this?

Hi Rob,
I do update the main download files as soon as possible with these changes also. I have not updated with these however, yet. Not sure what the best way is to maintain this so folks can stay current.
What about just checking this forum from time to time for UNREAD posts and updating that way? Would that work best?

Jeff,
To be honest I don't think that is a good solution. Sometimes, for example when traveling, or when you read the forums in the middle of the night, it is just not a good time to deal with changes like that. Trying to find all the relevant posts later could take a long time and it would be easy to miss one. Also there would be no way to see which ones would already be incorporated into the list originally downloaded.
I think my original suggestion of a sticky post in this forum listing the 'quick fixes' that are not in the master download files would work. You would just update that post every time you release a quick fix, and then again after you update the master files.

Rob,
This post of yours has had me thinking since you first entered it.
How do I efficiently allow users to manage such updates?
Well, how about this. In a future release, posts/additions made to this forum will be reviewed by me as they are now. But, after review I will put these files onto a network server and in a future version of Diary, when you start it (configurable of course) it will check the network server for new additions that you have not imported yet; let you know they are available, and auto-import them if you choose so - or leave them for another time.
Each users' system will keep track of which updates have been applied. This way, everyone will have up-to-date checklist data without having to monitor this forum.
I like! Comments?

Would be nice! I wouldn't do it at startup though, but in the menu as 'check for tax and checklist updates' just as we have 'check for program updates now'.

An updated Wagtail/Herring Gull complex checklist.
You should import this file with Overwrite Things.
This should correct all Herring Gull complex location data and all Yellow Wagtail/Eastern Yellow Wagtail location issues.

Jeff,
Will this fix update all applicable tax lists? Should it be run regardless of when the latest 2005 Clements, 2006 ABA/AOU files were downloaded?
Thanks

| Thanks Jeff. I was attempting to import the file and was confused regarding the large number of records (3095) that were being replaced. Are the attached screen shots correct for me to continue with the " Continue Import" button? |

Good question Mike.
As per the first post in this thread, you should be using "Overwrite Things" instead of "Do Not Overwrite". All other settings are moot. If you like to see what is being added removed, then leave "Analyze..." checked.
This is correct. Jeff |
