Hi Jeff.

Once again, not a crucial issue, but one I would like some advice on for next time!

Clements 2008 v6.3.2 installed with no problem at all on my computer (the video certainly streamlined things). The only difference from the earlier Clements 2008 is that the few species where I had changed the preferred common name in Tax Edit prior to updating,  have now reverted back to the default preferred common name!

Am I able to retain my preferred common names in a future tax update?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Wayne,

Yes! You can do this using the Language/Region Editor. The Dialect toolbar button under the Advanced button.

Create a new list calling it something like "My Clements Name Changes".

Then edit the list using the Names button, adding the thing you want to reassign the common name for and then specifying the common name. (Be sure you understand how things are used in BD). Add all the things you want to reassign names for. Update and close.

Now, assign those name changes to your new Clements tax list or any other tax list.

When a new Clements tax list is available, you import it as normal and then simply use the Language/Region window to change all names with the click of a single button using the list you have created.

Let me know if you require more assistance with this feature.

Glad you like the video!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I will file that away in my BD folder, and see how I get on the next time a tax list is available.

Hi Jeff

I decided to go ahead with entering my Clements preferred names using the Dialect toolbar button.

I did a trial with about 6 names, selected the taxonomy (Clements v6.3.2), then clicked "Set Common Names". This did a backup of my Clements as your User Guide instructions said it would, then changed to my preferences. So far, so good. I then continued  entering into  Language/Region List.

On completion I noted that the later changes hadn't taken effect (that made sense because I had only activated the trial species). So I reverted to the backup Clements, then changed to my preference list again. This time I got a message saying "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set".

The strange thing is - it has worked - all the species preference names have appeared as I want them to. So, the warning still allowed me to activate my preference list!!

What is Birder's Diary trying to tell me?!

Regards

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

There is a bug there. You the names changed and you are set and the bug has no effect other than to stop the program, forcing you to restart.

Thanks for reporting this.
It will be fixed in 3.7.
