I like to listen to iTunes while working on my computer, but when entering sightings the 'ding!' each time I hit enter is - loud. Really loud. Scared I"m going to permanently damage my hearing loud.

Is there a way to disable this, or am I stuck in an iTuneless world when using BD?

Hi,

Yes - you have many options.

In short, the file .../Birder's Diary/Petey.wav, is the file looked for and played when you successfully enter a sighting in Keyboard entry mode.

If you delete (not recommended) or simply rename that file (e.g. "Petey-dont-play.wav"), then you will get the default Windows subdued beep. Try that and see if you like that better. It is not as loud.

Also, you can replace that WAV file with any file of your choosing. For example, replace it with a WAV file of zero seconds and no sound. In this way you have gotten rid of any sound played after a sighting entry. You can Google for WAV files of all sorts. So just grab one you like, rename the old one so you will always have it in case you need it, and rename the new one to "Petey.wav" and put it in the same directory.

You can use many free programs to record your own WAV file (empty or not) and use that.

fyi

Jeff
