My computer was infected by a fatal piece of malware, and so I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Birder's Diary. How do I go about reactivating my copy?

Hello Llewellyn:

What version of BD do you have?

If v3.5 or 3.6, use your licenses to reactivate per the instructions here: http://www.birdersdiary.com/Documentation/BDV37/BDV37/Activating_Your_Birder_s_Diary_Licenses.htm

If v3.0, run the license activation program at the bottom of the Product Info => Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0 page on this site.

Let me know please,

Jeff

Jeff,

I too am in need of reativation assistance. I found all the emails pertaining to the purchase of the taxonomic lists I'm using (liscence ID & Password) but can't seem to locate the email for registering the BD program itself. Is there any way to have the softwarekey email regenerated and sent to me again? I'm running version 3.6.49 of BD.

It seems like I had this same problem a couple years back when another computer crashed on me while out in the field. I'm no good at keeping up with the registration emails, especially if they're over a month or two old.

Thanks,

Kreg

Hello Kreg,

I have reset the activations on your licenses. Be sure to only activate your v3.6 user license and not any previous user licenses. Then activate your taxonomic list licenses.

For instructions on how to activate your licenses after installation, see here.

Let me know if I can assist further,

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff, but I don't have the old emails from softkey (I think that's the registration company) with the registration keys and such. I found a couple of the ones for a few of the tax lists but not the main BD program. Now that I've moviedeverything onto a new computer I need those registration numbers to get the program unlocked again.

Hi Kreg,

You can retrieve all of your licenses as long as you know your password. This is not the password to this site, but rather, the password to any/all of your licenses. If you have one license ID and its password, then

  1. go to the page on this site Purchase >> Logon to the Online Store
  2. Logon using your license ID and password

Then you can retrieve all of your licenses. They all use the same password.

Let me know if I can assist further,

Jeff

As one who is all too likely to lose emails with registration information, I have developed a system that seems infallible (I hope!)

Whenever I get such an email I forward it to myself at my Gmail account, then archive it on gmail. That way I can always get at it, wherever I am, and it won't get lost if I have problems with my computer locally.

Thanks everyone. I'm all back up and registered--the World is right again!

Now, time to go birding and herping...

Kreg
