I am trying to activate BD on a new laptop.  I already have the software running on a desktop computer, but my email, with the activation instructions, has been lost.  How do I get the software up and running on the second computer?

Regards,

Scozza57

Hi Michael,

Install v3.6 from the Downloads page on this site. After installation, a web browser will popup with links to license activation instructions and the Quick Start Guide.

Let me know if anything is unclear or if I can assist further.

HI Charlie,

Yes - you can install 3.0.x (3.1.5 was never a program version, but the database version that correlates to 3.0.x).

You will find a free program to activate your v3.0 license at the bottom of the Product Info >> Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0 page on this site. You must be logged on to this site to see it.

Also, we no longer have that version for download on this site, so you must have the CDrom for it. Also, you may only have the CDrom for an earlier version of 3.0.x. In that case, install it from the CDrom, restore your database from a backup and see if it works. If it complains about being the wrong version, there is also a free upgrade to the version you will need at the bottom of the same page mentioned above.

Let me know if I can assist further,

Jeff

Hi Charlie,

It should not require any password to install. Just complete the installation and skip the section thay may ask for registration code, then run the above-mentioned license activation program after installation and you will be able to use it.

Let me know.

Hi Jeff,

I have installed BD on a new notebook and have the basic program up and running. I downloaded Clements 6.4., but am having problems getting the tax and checkleis installed.

1) It is just about impossible on a 10.5" widescreen, to run the tutorial and switch from the top, where everything is happening, to the bottom, where the controls are to get the tutorial started and stopped at the right places. I may have screwed something up while struggling with this issue.

2) I have now starsted BD on the notebook and the tutorial on another computer. That seems to be doable, but I am now getting a message "The name (Birds - Clements Cornell - World 2009 6.4.1) is already in use. Please chose another" What do I need to do now to get the tax and checklist properly installed?

Thanks,
Spencer

Hi Spencer,

That message would indicate that the Clements 6.4.1 taxonomy import file probably imported correctly. To check, start BD, open Tax View, select the new tax list from the drop down and see if the numbers in the bottom right are "10004 / 31108". If so, then the taxonomy file is imported correctly and nothing to do. If not, then click the Delete button to the right of the taoxnomy dropdown to go ahead and remove this incomplete tax list. And reimport the tax list as per the video instructions.

Now, as for the checklist file import - proceed to that in the video instructions and once done, all should be good.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Hi Jeff,

I think that I have now gotten everything correctly installed on the new netbook except that I am now getting a message top contact sales because I have used my alloted installations on this license. I have BD and this tax on my laptop and my wifes laptop. if necessasry, I will take it off her laptop because I was just using that machine as a back up, which I now want the new net book to be. Please advise.

Also, when I restore from my backup to get data onto the netbook, do all of my locations come over to the new machine or do I have to do something to import those from my laptop as well?

Thanks,

Spencer

Hi Spencer,

I have reset the activations on your Clements license. The only one that was out of activations. When activating licenses on Vista/7 be sure to use the instructions at the top of this page under the FAQ section.

Everything is transferred in your database except for license information. All data, sightings, locations, taxonomy lists, etc.

Jeff
