06/24/2009 3:28 PM Alert

I first bought the Clements World birds and it worked fine under the demo. Then taht expired and I discovered I needed a Birder's Diary license, which I bought. This is now installed. When I tried to add sightings, it told me my Clements was not licensed. I went through and (re?) put in the information. It told me the "unknown" license had been activated. Then I returned and it still tells me the license has not been activated. I am really getting frustrated. Can you help?

Hi Jeff,

I have sent you a couple emails regarding this. It seems you have not gotten them. The reason why I prefer to use these forums. Can't get lost.

The version of Clements you used in the Demo database is an older version. You purchased a license for the latest version. Now, all you have to do is to download and import that new tax list and associated checklist file. You can get this all started by going to the downloads page on this site and clicking on the clements 6.3.2 link. It will start the download, and then auto-play a video that leads you through importing both files (tax list and checklist data) into your database. No need to activate the license again as this has already been done.

Let me know if I can assist any further please.

Jeff

Thanks for writing. I started the download process and it asked for a password. The one you sent me in the email confirming my purchase (May 3) did not work. Now what?

Hi Jeff,

I was gone for the weekend. Back now.

Are you attempting to download and import Clements 6.3.2? Then the password you want is on the copy of the Invoice you received for your purchase of Clements 6.3.2 - not the purchase of Birder's Diary Basic User license. You would have received a copy of this invoice via email. Do you have it still?

It is on there. Let me know please.

Jeff

There are actually two passwords - one selected by me and one issued by you. I tried the one issued by you and it did not work. I tried the one issued by me (again; am I out of uses now?) and it gave me a pop-up "Taxonomic List is activated". I then ran it (the installation; where it asked for the other password) and it told me to manually import the taxonomic and checklist files. I imported the first and the program froze in the middle of the second and had to be shut down. When I opened up birders diary again, it said the list was not activated again. Do I have to start all over again?

Hi Jeff,

I am confused - so "join the crowd" you say.

You have two Licenses that I see:

3.6 Basic User license: 60505630
Clements 6.3.2: 60495661

Neither have exceeded their activation limit.

Which license, exactly, are you attempting to activate?

The password you chose, is the one you should use during license activation. The license issued by me is the one you use during installation of Clements. This is all spelled out in the Support => Online Users Guide on this web site. Then choose Activating your BD License from the table of contents on the left. Please review this section to make sure you are complying. Also, if you are attempting to activate a license on Vista, be sure to use the instructions from the FAQ at the top of this page.

Also, during the import, the seeming program freeze is to be expected. Please continue to let it run until you see the message indicating that all records have been imported. This may take hours. Just let it run. It will complete. You do need to run the 2nd of two imports with Clements again - this is the one that you rebooted in the middle of. The first was the taxonomy file, the second is the checklist data file - BirdsClements2008v632-Checklist.csv. Watch the video again and fast forward to that section in order to get a refresher if you don't remember. The video is available from the Birder's Diary menu under the Windows START - All Programs.

Let me know - this should get you going finally.

thanks. it seems like I am in -that it finished the downloads before it froze- I was able to add recent sightings. Now is it possible to import previous trips that I had entered under the trial version or are they lost forever. they are excel csv files under the birders diary folder

Hi Jeff,

Activating your license and moving from the trial version does not delete anything you had previously entered.

Are you saying that you saved some sightings by exporting them, then somehow uninstalled BD from your system and then reinstalled it? This would have deleted your previous settings.

Let me know,

Jeff
