Hi Jeff I am recommending the program to a new friend who is a US birder.  He is currently using Birdbase - can he import his sightings from there ?

Apologies if it has been asked before - I did search but couldnt see anything

I know that Jeff has converted Avisys and DataHawk.

The first question will be if BirdBase offers an unload facility, or a way to make a text or excel file?

Regards,
Steve

Let me add more to what SteveO has already stated.

BD allows you to import any and all data from any source into it. All that is needed is to get your data into the proper sightings import format and then use the Sightings Import feature of BD.

This process is very easy for those familiar with Excel or standard CSV format and is a three step process.

  1. First export your format from your current source (e.g. birdbase) int a format that allows for easy data massage and reformatting. Just about any format works with Excel; e.g. CSV, tab-delimited, etc etc.
  2. Import that exported data into Excel; and massage it using various methods available in Excel into the expected BD import format (see link above); and save from Excel to CSV format.
  3. Now open BD and import the data.

Let us know if we can assist further. Much of this process is explained in more detail in your users guide - a link to the online version is above.

Jeff
