Hi Jeff!
Since I am running on a tangent anyway , I thought I would also ask about the possibility of a "Lifer Trip Report".
At present the only way (I think) I can create a printout of my trip Lifers is to create a normal Life List Report in numerical order (which of course lists every single Lifer I've seen, not just on the Trip) and only print the last page or two.
It would be great being able to create a "Lifer Trip Report" only listing trip Lifers and being able to group by the different methods available to other reports.
Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea Rob.
Will try to get that into 3.7.
v3.7 will already modify the trip report so that lifers are highlighted.

Hi Jeff:
If possible, it would be great being able to include "Trip Notes" with the Lifer Trip Report too.
Thanks!

Hi Jeff!
I'm just back from a birding trip and have a question about Lifers being hi-lited in the Trip Report.
This was the first trip where I've input not only my sightings, but my partners'. So, I might have this wrong.
Since the Trip Report shows every bird seen by anyone quoting the Trip, how will Birder's Diary be able to separate Lifers for different Observers? The more Observers listed the more confusing it will be?
Will there be a method to show just the Lifers for a particular Observer?
Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob,
Hmmmm. On this one, if I modify the current Trip report and allow for selection of Observer and for highlighting Lifers is some way - does that fit all the needs on this item?
Thanks,
Jeff |

Jeff:
As a Complete Trip Report - probably not. Our trip was to Northern India. My partner is brand, brand new to birding so pretty much EVERY bird seen was a Lifer, but for myself, only 200 were. The Trip Report itself is great, but having the report hi-lite every Lifer seen by the two of us is more or less worthless to me. It doesn't give me any usable information (sorry that sounds a little rude, but don't mean it to be. )
Ideally, I just want to print off a Report (Life List?) for the period of the trip that lists one of every bird I saw and see MY Lifers hi-lited.
Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob,
Not rude at all. I appreciate the feedback.
We are on the same page. What you state...
Ideally, I just want to print off a Report (Life List?) for the period of the trip that lists one of every bird I saw and see MY Lifers hi-lited.
...is what I am suggesting.
I can accomplish this by adding an Observer dropdown to the current Trip report and highlighting lifers in the output.
Adding the Observer dropdown allows you to just specify your sightings for the trip.
Make sense?

Yes, sounds good. We can still print off a "group effort" Trip Report, or do Individual Trip Reports with Lifers hi-lited (would the report hi-lite the first time the Lifer species was seen, or everytime?)
But... Trip Reports list everytime you record a species. If I am going to hi-lite Lifers, I would like to create a report that only lists a species once, and hi-lites that species if it was a Lifer. (See below - this is a Life List I created for the trip, and then tweaked in a PDF editor (friends kept asking which ones where Lifers).

Hi Rob,
The trip report only lists each species seen once - regardless of whether you have entered multiple sightings for it.
If you do not select an observer, then highlighting lifers is disabled. Doesn't make sense in that respect.
We are still saying the same thing.

Hi Jeff!
For me, the Trip Report always lists each sighting of a species (if you enter it three times today, then it will print out three times today). Maybe I'm just missing the way to turn that off?
I'm not at home, so had to download a trial BD v3.6. Please see sample below.
Thanks man!

HI Rob,
I see now. You are talking about a "Sightings" report using the Sightings TAB. I am talking about using the Trip TAB in v3.6.
That is the main difference between the Sightings TAB and the Trip TAB. The latter only shows each species sighted once.
I will put Lifer indicator on each. But they only apply if you specify an observer.

Excellent!! Thanks!! That will really be a bonus.
Actually it is the Trip Tab I was using for the report above. The setup below created the report (with duplicated species) above. Where am I messing up?
Rob
EDIT: As soon as you add LOCATION to the criteria, it lists every species you saw. If you don't include location, then it lists only the first species seen. |

You found it. If you specify location as an output field, then it simply lists each species seen at that location once, regardless of multiple sightings for that location.

Hi Jeff!
I found it, it's a glitch, or I found it, it's a feature?
LOL I've just started using the Trip Reports, so I guess I'm not using them properly. Is there a way to have a Trip Report include locations, but just list the first sighting of that day? Or should I be using a different report to accomplish that? (Please see first screen shot below.)
Also, is there any chance of any Reports in v3.7 that hi-lite Lifers to include a Lifer Total at the top of front page (Please see second screen shot).
Hope you're enjoying California! -10C/14F up here in Toronto!

Hi Rob,
That is the way I meant for it to work. But I can see why you would want it to work the other way.
Let me work on all of these things you are asking for. Shouldn't be hard.
Thanks for continuing to push.
