Jeff,

I have an odd problem that I can't seem to fix.  I created my original odonate taxonomy quite a while back, before I could or knew how to turn off the SmartSearch function.  This created a problem when naming something new that had a similar name to something already created.  Here's an outline of what happened in one case:

1)  I created the giant spreadwings in genus Archilestes

2)  When I went to create the spreadwings in genus Lestes, I couldn't stop SmartSearch from changing Lestes to Archilestes.  I remedied this problem by adding a space after Lestes.  Thus, my spreadwings were in the genus "Lestes ", instead of "Lestes".

Now that I know how to turn off SmartSearch and create a name without SmartSearch trying to match it to something similar, I still can't get rid of that pesky space character.  When I try to change a spreadwing from "Lestes " to "Lestes" in the Tax Editor, it seems to work at first (it lets me create the genus "Lestes" without the space).  But when I hit Update, it just puts the thing back in the old genus with the space after it.  Basically, it seems that BD doesn't recognize the name without an extra space after it as a new name at all.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick
